INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) --- Four members from the Green Bay Phoenix volleyball team were named to the 2017 Horizon All-League squads, the league announced on Tuesday morning.
Taylor Wolf was named the Horizon League Freshman of the Year, in addition to being named to the All-League Team and All-Freshman Team.
Lydia DeWeese was named to the All-League Team for the third time in her career, becoming just the second player in the history of the program to receive All-League honors in three separate seasons, joining Green Bay Athletics Hall of Fame member Janelle Tomlinson '04.
Joining Wolf on the All-Freshman Team was
Roberta Todd, while Maddie Yoss received Honorable Mention All-League. Green Bay's four players to receive recognition is tied with Oakland for the second-most this year, trailing the five players honored by league-champion Cleveland State.
Wolf, a freshman from Waconia, Minn., led all HL freshmen in hitting percentage (.295) and kills (219), ranking in the top 10 in both categories as well. She led the Phoenix in kills and was second in assists during league play, helping her to become the first player in program history to claim Freshman of the Year honors.
Already one of the program's all-time greats, DeWeese added to her impressive career resume, notching her third appearance on the All-League team. The Columbus, Ohio, native led all Horizon League players in hitting percentage (.346) and ranked sixth in kills with 3.24 per set.
The coordinator of the Green Bay attack, Yoss, earned Honorable Mention recognition after ranking second in the HL in assists with 11.59 per set. The sophomore earned All-Freshman Team honors last season and will now add another piece of hardware to her trophy case, after recording six 50-plus assist matches this season. Yoss totaled a career-high 69 assists in last Friday's match at Cleveland State.
The talented Todd came on the scene this year as a freshman, finishing fourth on the team in kills with 2.47 per set. The native of Stoney Creek, Ontario, Canada gave the Phoenix another solid option at the net, recording 10 or more kills in nine matches this year.
Green Bay will enter the 2017 Horizon League Tournament in Cleveland this weekend as the No. 4 seed, facing off with No. 5 seed UIC on Friday night in the Quarterfinals at 5 p.m. CT.
