Green Bay Rises to No. 21 in AP Top 25, No. 24 in USA Today Coaches Poll

GREEN BAY, Wis. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) – The Green Bay women's basketball team picked up a couple wins on the road last week and was rewarded in the AP Top 25 and USA Today Coaches Polls, moving up to No. 21 and No. 24, respectively.

The 21st ranking in the AP Poll marks the highest spot for the Phoenix since entering the 2013 NCAA Tournament at No. 20.

The Phoenix rises in both polls after nine games with an 8-1 record, with its only loss this season coming in the Cancun Challenge when Green Bay took the floor against 2017 National Finalist No. 7/3 Mississippi State. As of Dec. 12, Green Bay was slotted fifth in RPI behind UConn, Notre Dame, Louisville and Villanova.

The Phoenix currently boasts the top statistical defense in the country, allowing a lowly 46.8 points per game to start the season. Considering to open the 2017-18 campaign Green Bay has already faced five teams that took part in the 2017 NCAA Tournament, it makes the stat all the more impressive.

The national recognition and exposure has been a reoccurring theme for the Green Bay women's basketball program, which has now been ranked at some point during the season in seven out of the last eight years.

Green Bay's next action will come on Saturday when it welcomes Bradley to the Kress Center for a 1 p.m. tip.
