Women's Basketball Releases Full 2017-18 Schedule

GREEN BAY, Wis. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) – The Horizon League announced the 2017-18 league schedule in its entirety on Thursday, one that includes 18 leagues games for the Green Bay women's basketball team. Also unveiled was the program's nonconference schedule, which is highlighted by matchups in the Cancun Challenge as well as a home pairing with in-state rival Marquette.

"We always try to compete with the best teams in the country and this schedule offers us the opportunity to do just that," head coach Kevin Borseth said. "We will be playing against five NCAA Tournament teams from last season, some of which we will be welcoming to the Kress Center. It is going to be very demanding and we have to make sure we are at our best every time we take the floor."

The Phoenix will also host two exhibition games before opening the regular season, the first against UW-Whitewater on Oct. 26 and the second against Michigan Tech on Nov. 2.

NONCONFERENCE BREAKDOWN
As head coach Kevin Borseth prepares his squad for the rigors of the Horizon League slate, the Phoenix will face numerous tests to open the season. Green Bay squares off with seven 20-win teams and five 2017 NCAA Tournament qualifiers in its 11-game nonconference schedule.

Green Bay opens the 2017-18 season at the Kress Center with the Southern Conference Champions, Chattanooga, on November 11. The Phoenix will then hit the road for Madison on November 15 to face in-state rival Wisconsin to avenge last year's one-point defeat to the Badgers. South Dakota State is on the slate for the fifth-straight season as the Phoenix welcomes SDSU to the Kress Center on November 18. Green Bay has pieced together three-consecutive victories over the Jackrabbits.

From there, it's a little fun in the sun for the Phoenix as the squad jets down to Mexico for the Cancun Challenge. Green Bay will take the floor three times in Cancun, facing Columbia (Nov. 23), Arizona State (Nov.24) and Mississippi State (Nov.25), the team that snapped UCONN's 111-game winning streak last season. When its wheels down back in Wisconsin, Green Bay will welcome in-state rival and Big East Tournament champions, Marquette, to the Kress Center on December 2. The Phoenix will be searching for its sixth-straight victory over the Golden Eagles.

A pair of road bouts with Dayton (Dec. 6) and Loyola (Dec. 10) is up next before Green Bay returns home again on December 16 for a rematch of last year's 25-point Phoenix victory over Bradley at the Renaissance Coliseum.

Facing one final test before entering Horizon League play, the nonconference season comes to a close for Green Bay with a strong Big Ten team in Northwestern. The Wildcats, a 20-win squad in 2016-17, have never taken the floor against the Phoenix.

HORIZON LEAGUE SLATE
Green Bay faces possibly one of its toughest challenges right out of the gate to start league play, traveling to Dayton, Ohio for a matchup with its co-champion Wright State on December 25. The team will then square off against Northern Kentucky on December 30 before returning home to face rival Milwaukee on January 6.

After facing the other two 20-win teams, aside from itself, within the first three games of the league slate, Green Bay stays within the friendly confines of the Kress Center for matchups with Youngstown State (Jan. 11) and Cleveland State (Jan. 13).

The Phoenix then has a string of three road games, with the first pitting the squad against the league's newest member, IUPUI, on January 15. From there, Green Bay readies itself for a trip to the Motor City to take on Detroit Mercy (Jan.18) in a rematch of last year's tournament championship and Oakland (Jan. 20).

Green Bay enjoys a four-game stretch at home as the first month of a new year comes to a close, with UIC on the schedule for January 26 and IUPUI slated for January 28. Northern Kentucky (Feb. 1) and Wright State (Feb. 3) will close out the home stand for the Phoenix.

After a stretch of four games at home, Green Bay is faced with the same length stretch on the road, beginning with Milwaukee on February 10. The next week will see Green Bay travel to Ohio for games against Cleveland State (Feb. 15) and Youngstown State (Feb. 17). The last road game of the regular season will come on February 19 when Green Bay takes on UIC.

The final week of the season will feature matchups with Oakland (Feb. 23) and Detroit Mercy (Feb. 25). A week later, Green Bay will return to Detroit for Motor City Madness, which is scheduled for March 2-6 at the brand new Little Caesars' Arena.
