Green Bay Phoenix Softball Releases 2019 Schedule

GREEN BAY, Wis. — Head coach Scott Wachholz and the Green Bay softball team announced its 2019 schedule on Tuesday, which features matchups against Big Ten members Wisconsin and Iowa as well as Big Twelve member Kansas, amongst several other skilled mid-major Division I schools.

"We are really excited about what this year's schedule offers," said Wachholz. "With our non-conference slate, we focused on getting a lot of quality in-region match-ups, which gives our players many chances to play close to their hometowns giving their families and friends a chance to see them play closer to home."

The full schedule includes 48 games, with the first pitch of the 2019 season being thrown on February 8 at the Total Control Sports Invitational in Rosemont, Ill. The Phoenix will play five total games at the invite, taking the field against Purdue Fort Wayne, DePaul, Western Illinois, and Evansville.

Green Bay will also participate in the Cougar Classic in Edwardsville, Ill., the Saluki Invitational in Carbondale, Ill., and the Skyhawk Hampton Inn Classic in Martin, Tenn. as part of their regular season tournament schedule.

After a matchup against Kansas, the Phoenix will open conference play at home with a three-game series against Wright State on Friday, March 29 and Saturday, March 30. Its first away action will come the following weekend when the team travels to Cleveland State.

Before finishing its conference slate by hosting Youngstown State on Friday, May 3 and Saturday, May 4, the Green Bay softball team will head to Madison on April 30 for a doubleheader with the Badgers.

A total of 12 games will be played at home this season, with series against Wright State (March 29 & 30), IUPUI (April 9 & 10), Detroit Mercy (April 19 & 20) and Youngstown State (May 3 & 4).

The Horizon League Tournament will begin on May 9 and go through May 11, with the league's regular-season champion earning the right to host.
