INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) – The Green Bay women's basketball team landed four members on All-Horizon League teams Wednesday morning, with
Jessica Lindstrom,
Allie LeClaire,
Jen Wellnitz and
Karly Murphy receiving recognition for their play this season.
Green Bay ran away with its 20th-straight Horizon League Championship and finished with a three-game lead in the final standings at 16-2. In recognition of its dominant campaign, the Phoenix also finished with the highest number of athletes honored by the league's postseason awards.
Seniors Lindstrom and LeClaire led the way for Green Bay with all-league nods, as Lindstrom was named to first team and LeClaire to second.
Lindstrom was one of only five players in the Horizon League to average more than 15 points per game this season and the only to average a double-double. The native of Superior, Wis., ranked atop the league's standings for rebounds-per-game with 10.4, more than two rebounds ahead of second place. The forward also set program records for all-time rebounds and double-doubles in the division I era. Lindstrom finished with a league-best four Horizon League Player of the Week awards, closing the season with back-to-back honors.
Lindstrom was also named to the HL's all-defensive team for the third-consecutive season in honor of her contributions to one of the best defenses in Green Bay's rich history.
LeClaire helped direct the Phoenix offense to an overall record of 26-3 and the program's third undefeated season since the construction of the Kress Center at 13-0. The native of Green Bay, Wis., averaged 13.6 PPG and finished second on the team in assists and steals. The guard moved up to ninth place on Green Bay's all-time scoring list this past weekend and will enter postseason play with 1,411 career points.
Wellnitz, now a two-time member of the Horizon League's all-defensive team, garnered the program's first Defensive Player of the Year award since Kaili Lukan accomplished the feat in the 2015-16 season. The guard led the nation's top defense in steals throughout the season, averaging 2.4 SPG.
Karly Murphy was named to the all-freshman team after a successful 2017-18 campaign with the Phoenix. Murphy started 28 of Green Bay's 29 games entering the Horizon League tournament, averaging 8.1 PPG and 4.5 RPG. The forward shot 49.5% from the field this season, second on the team to only to Lindstrom's mark of 50.5%.
Green Bay opens the 2018 Horizon League Tournament as the No. 1 seed on Saturday (Mar. 3), taking the court against the winner of Game Two (No. 8 Northern Kentucky vs. No. 9 Detroit Mercy). Green Bay's game on Saturday will tipoff at 1:30 p.m. (CT) at the Little Caesars arena.
