GREEN BAY, Wis. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) – Finalizing its 2018 recruiting class, the Green Bay men's basketball program inked its final recruit to NLI with the addition of Shanquan "Tank" Hemphill, head coach
Linc Darner announced on Wednesday. Hemphill, a native of Gary, Ind., joins the Phoenix with two years of eligibility remaining. The 6-foot-6 athletic Hemphill enjoyed two standout seasons at Florida Southwestern State College, which went 30-3 and captured the program's first-ever conference championship.
"Tank comes from a very outstanding junior college program at Florida Southwestern State, led by a great coach in Marty Richter. Similar to the rest of our recruiting class this year, Tank brings another level of athleticism and ability to our roster," Darner said. "We're excited to have Tank join our program and we are really looking forward to working with our group this season and beyond."

Hemphill, a 2018 Suncoast Conference All-Conference First Team selection, scored in double figures 27 times during the season, including scoring a career-high 29 points (14-of-22 shooting from the field) in a win over IMG (Jan. 5). Hemphill recorded a pair of double-doubles this season and pulled down 5-plus boards on 22 occasions. The high-flying Hemphill ranked third on the team with 14.2 points per game and shot a team-best 60.4 percent from the field, which ranked 43rd in the country.
He was given the nickname Tank at a young age, because was a big baby. Hemphill was a track and field standout at Michigan City High School and once cleared 6 feet, 11 inches in the high jump. He finished second in the event at the Indiana High School Athletic Association state track finals as a senior.
"I'm excited to be a part of the team. I love to play fast and get up and down and pressure on defense. Coach Darner's RP40 (was a big reason in choosing Green Bay)," Darner sad. "I'm a piece to the puzzle to get us to the tournament next year."
"ShanQuan was one of the original group that we brought in to start our program," FSW coach Marty Richter said in a statement. "He was instrumental to our success this season, and his athleticism and scoring ability will translate well with how Green Bay plays."
