GREEN BAY, Wis. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) --- After leading the Green Bay volleyball team in digs for the third tournament in a row, the Horizon League announced senior Vanessa Buman as the Defensive Player of the Week on Monday morning.
Buman led Green Bay with 58 digs over three matches played throughout the weekend, helping the Phoenix finish as runner-ups in the Sycamore Invitational. Her 5.27 digs per set ranked second in the league for the week. She continues to show consistency, picking up 11 digs in each three-set match against Central Michigan and Saint Louis.
The native of Greenville, Wisconsin currently ranks fifth in the Horizon League in digs, with 4.43 per set overall. She has collected 155 total after three weekends of play.
Green Bay went 2-1 at the Sycamore Invitational in Terre Haute, Indiana, defeating Saint Louis and Central Michigan in straight sets. The Phoenix also played hosts Indiana State, but gave up the match in the fifth set after pushing the Sycamores to 16 points.
This upcoming weekend, Buman and the Phoenix will attend their last tournament of the regular season, traveling to Minneapolis, Minnesota for the Gopher Fall Classic. Green Bay will take on #1 ranked Minnesota on Thursday, September 13 and Kansas State on Friday, September 14.
This marks the first career Horizon League Player of the Week honor for Buman.
