GREEN BAY, Wis. (Dec. 5, 2009) - The Green Bay Phoenix (8-2, 2-0 Horizon League) rolled past the UIC Flames (1-5, 0-2) Saturday night at the Resch Center, winning by a final of 85-59 to move to 2-0 in league play for the second straight year.
Green Bay jumped out to a 23-8 lead at the midway point of the first half and never looked back. The Phoenix scored 17 of its first 29 points off UIC turnovers.
For the game, Green Bay shot 55.6 percent (30 for 54), including an astounding 24 of 34 (.706) from two-point range.
It was the second straight game in which the Phoenix led by double figures for the final 30-plus minutes and was up by at least 20 at intermission. Both happened against conference opponents.
As a result, Green Bay won by at least 20 points in back-to-back games for the first time since Dec. 29-30, 1998, when it defeated Texas Southern (67-46) and Air Force (72-49).
Rahmon Fletcher (Kansas City, Mo.) had his second straight 20-point game, following his 29-point performance on Thursday with 24 against the Flames. He was 9 of 15 from the field.
His backcourt mates Bryquis Perine (Milwaukee, Wis.) and Troy Cotton (Milwaukee, Wis.) added 16 and 12 respectively. Perine added a career-best eight assists and had no turnovers. Randy Berry (Plover, Wis.) dragged down a game-high 12 boards.
The Phoenix has now matched its season-long winning streak (4) and has been victorious in eight of its last nine. In addition, Green Bay has won four straight and seven of its last eight games against the Flames dating back to 2005.
Green Bay hosts instate rival Wisconsin on Wednesday. Game time is set for 7 p.m. Fewer than 50 tickets are available for the contest.
