MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - The
men's and women's Nordic Ski team completed their two-day competition in the
Central Super Tour event held at Theodore Wirth Park in Minneapolis Saturday
and Sunday. The competition was part of the CCSA conference's second NCAA
qualifying weekend.
On the women's side Carolyn Freeman (Ely, Minn.) finished
Saturday's 5k freestyle event in fourth place with a time of 13:23.6, just two
seconds off the podium, while Lindsey Marshall (Shoreview, Minn.) had a strong
performance finishing in 15th place with a time of 14:02.4.
After an impressive performance earlier this month at the
U.S. Nationals, Santiago Ocariz (Spooner, Wis.) led the way for the Phoenix on
Saturday finishing the men's race in second place with a time of 23:36.8. In
Sunday's 15k Classic event, Ocariz was the top college finisher with a time of
37:41.1.
Freeman and Marshall also led the way for the Phoenix during
Sunday's 10k Classic race. Freeman just missed a top ten finish with a time of
31:54.1 while Marshall completed the course 32:44.4.
The Phoenix will compete in the second leg of the Central
Super Tour next weekend (Jan. 30-31) in Cable, Wis.
