Green Bay Basketball Hosts "In the War Zone with the Wardles"

GREEN BAY, Wis. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) - Green Bay head men's basketball coach Brian Wardle and his wife, Lecia, hosted their first In the War Zone with the Wardles women's clinic on Monday evening. The event welcomed women to the Kress Events Center for a social and a basketball clinic with the Wardles.

More than 50 women attended the event, which began with a social and an introduction in the Special Events Room from Lecia Wardle. She spoke about her life inside and outside of basketball as the wife of a first-year Division I basketball coach.

"I thought it was great and people were really receptive to the idea. We wanted the women in the community to get to know Brian and myself a little better while learning more about the program," Lecia said. "We were hoping to get women more connected, and a lot of the women said they were excited to get an invitation. I also wanted to give people some insight of the pros and cons of being a college coach."

The group then went to the arena where the guests were instructed by a basketball referee on some specific rules of the game.

To close the clinic, Brian Wardle talked to the attendees about game management, the specific roles of the members of his coaching staff, scouting and some of the ins and outs of the Phoenix offense.

"I thought it was a really fun clinic and night to give an inside look at our program and why we do some of the things we do on the court," Brian said. "I tried to give the group of women some inside knowledge that they could share with their spouses or friends when they are sitting in the stands at the Resch Center."

All Phoenix fans will have a chance to get more insight from Wardle on Tuesday when the coach appears on Inside Phoenix Basketball presented by Miller Lite, a basketball coaches show from 6-7 p.m. at The Bar on Holmgren Way.

Green Bay will be back on the court Thursday when it opens Horizon League play at home against Cleveland State at 7 p.m.
