Green Bay Announces 2010-11 Men's Basketball Schedule

GREEN BAY, Wis. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) - Green Bay head coach Brian Wardle announced his team's 2010-11 schedule Wednesday, highlighted by 14 home games and in-state non-conference contests at Marquette and Wisconsin.

"I am excited about the schedule that we have laid out for our program this season," Wardle said. "It will certainly be a test for our team, but we are looking forward to the challenge. Our home schedule also provides our fans in the community a chance to see us play 14 games in Green Bay against quality opponents."

The Phoenix will open the campaign with a home contest at the on-campus Kress Events Center on Nov. 13 against Minnesota Duluth. That contest will precede the trip to Milwaukee on Nov. 17, where Green Bay's first-year head coach will face his alma mater, Marquette. Wardle played at Marquette from 1997-2001, and he currently ranks as the school's sixth all-time leading scorer with 1,690 points.

The Marquette game will be the opening game of the 2010 O'Reilly Auto Parts CBE Classic, which will continue with three games from Nov. 20-22 in Oxford, Ohio, at Miami. The Phoenix will face San Diego State (Nov. 20), Miami (Nov. 21) and IUPUI (Nov. 22) during the event.

After the home opener at the Kress Center, the Phoenix will play the remainder of its home schedule at the Resch Center, including non-conference contests against North Dakota State (Nov. 27), Duquesne (Dec. 8), North Dakota (Dec. 20) and Houston Baptist (Jan. 3).

The rest of the non-conference road schedule is highlighted by the road trip to Madison to face Wisconsin on Dec. 13, a contest that follows a trip to play Buffalo on Dec. 11. Green Bay will also play at Wyoming on Dec. 22 and an Bracket Buster game on Feb. 19 on the road against an opponent to be determined.

The 13 non-conference contests include games against teams from seven different conferences, including the Big Ten, BIG EAST, Mid-American, Mountain West, Atlantic 10, Summit League and Great West.

"Our non-conference schedule gives us the opportunity to play a diverse set of opponents from high-level conferences all over the country," said Wardle. "With in-state contests against high-level programs, road trips to both the eastern and western parts of the country, and three games in a tournament setting, the schedule provides us strong tests to prepare us for the Horizon League."

Green Bay welcomes Cleveland State (Dec. 2) and Youngstown State (Dec. 4) to the Resch Center for the opening weekend of the conference schedule. Those two contests, along with a trip to Detroit on Dec. 30, will be the lone Horizon League games for the Phoenix prior to 2011.

A New Year's Day tilt against Wright State in Dayton will open the new year for Green Bay, and after hosting Houston Baptist in non-conference play on Jan. 3, the Phoenix welcomes in-state rival Milwaukee and begins a stretch of 11-straight conference games on Jan. 8.

A season-long four-game homestand concludes against Loyola and UIC respectively on Jan. 13 and 15, respectively.

The first of two meetings against defending Horizon League champion and national runner-up Butler is set for Jan. 21 at Hinkle Fieldhouse. The Phoenix will then play at Valparaiso on Jan. 23 before returning to Green Bay to host Wright State (Jan. 28) and Detroit (Jan. 30) to close out the month.

Three games away from the Resch begins February as Green Bay will play at Milwaukee (Feb. 5), UIC (Feb. 10) and Loyola (Feb. 12).

Butler's trip to the Resch will take place on Feb. 15 before the ESPNU Bracket Buster contest on Feb. 19 gives Green Bay a brief break from the Horizon League schedule.

The regular season concludes with the final home game on Feb. 21 against Valparaiso and contests at Youngstown State (Feb. 24) and Cleveland State (Feb. 26).

All Green Bay home games will be played at 7 p.m. with the exception of the games against Youngstown State and Detroit, which will be played at 1 p.m. Game times for the home opener against Minnesota-Duluth as well as the road contests will be announced at a later date.
