GREEN BAY, Wis. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) - After leading the team in scoring and rebounding in wins over Youngstown State and Cleveland State, freshman Jordan Fouse (Racine, Wis.) has been named the Horizon League Newcomer of the Week, the conference office announced on Monday morning.

A 6-foot-7 forward, Fouse has been among the most consistent players all season for the Phoenix. One of only three players to start all 19 games, Fouse has led the Green Bay defensive effort during a seven-game home winning streak. Last week, his offensive production went to another level.

Fouse averaged 14.5 points, 9.5 rebounds, 3.5 steals and 2.5 blocks per game. In the 77-50 victory over Cleveland State, Fouse posted a double-double with 17 points and 10 rebounds and added four assists, four steals and three blocked shots. He narrowly missed a double-double on Thursday, scoring 12 points and adding nine rebounds in a 67-58 win over Youngstown State.

The leader among all Horizon League freshmen in rebounds, steals and blocked shots, Fouse did not lead Green Bay in scoring in any of the first 15 games. That changed on the team's 4-0 homestand as the Racine native was the team's high point man in three of the four contests.

For the season, Fouse is averaging 5.9 points, 6.9 rebounds, 1.6 steals and 1.3 blocked shots per game. He ranks second in the Horizon League in rebounding, third in steals and fourth in blocked shots.

Sitting in a tie for third place, Green Bay plays at first-place Valparaiso on Wednesday night at 7:05 p.m. The contest will be broadcast live on ESPN3.com.

Team Notes

• The 27-point margin of victory in the win over Cleveland State was the largest by the Phoenix in a Horizon League game since a 78-49 win over Youngstown State on Feb. 5, 2005.
• Green Bay has improved to 9-1 on the season at home, 21-3 in the past two years and 31-7 in the past three seasons.
• During its seven-game home winning streak, Green Bay is allowing just 49.3 points per game and 33.4 percent shooting from the field. The Phoenix also holds a rebounding margin of plus-7.3 during that stretch.
• Jordan Fouse and Brennan Cougill posted double-doubles against CSU. It was the fifth time in the Division I era that two Phoenix players had double-doubles in the same game. Four of those occasions have occurred in the past three seasons under head coach Brian Wardle and two of them have been this season.
• The Phoenix made its last 17 free throws on Saturday and 19 of its last 21 attempts on Thursday night.
• Green Bay ranks second in the Horizon League and 20th nationally in free-throw percentage (75.2).
• The Phoenix is first in the conference in free throws made (321) and second behind Valparaiso in free throw attempts (427).
• In Horizon League play, Green Bay leads the conference in field goal percent defense (.351), rebounding margin (+7.5) and blocked shots (6.0).
• Green Bay's 10 team blocks on Saturday against Cleveland State were tied for the second most in program history.
• The Phoenix is 9-0 when holding its opponents below 60 points.
• Nine different Phoenix players have started at least one game this season.
• Green Bay put five players in double figures against CSU, the first time since Feb. 12, 2012 at Detroit.

Individual Notes

• Junior Alec Brown has now scored 963 career points and will be the program's 25th member of the 1,000-point club when he surpasses that amount.
• Brown tallied a season-high six blocks in the win over Cleveland State.
• With 16 blocks in the past four games, Brown now has 187 career blocked shots. He has blocked a shot in 68 of 80 career games.
• Sophomore Keifer Sykes has led the team in assists in 13-straight games.
• Sykes has scored in double figures in 18 of Green Bay's 19 games and ranks fourth in the Horizon League in points per game.
• The sophomore guard has now scored 625 career points in 49 games (12.8 points per game).
• After combining for just 11 three-pointers last season, Brown and Sykes have knocked down 22 triples in 2012-13. The duo is shooting 40 percent (22-55) from long range.
• Junior Daniel Turner started against Youngstown State and Cleveland State. His start against YSU was the 36th of his career but first since a game at Wisconsin on Dec. 7, 2011.
• Brennan Cougill's double-double was his third of the season and sixth of his two-year career.
