CHICAGO, Ill. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) – With three players posting top-five finishes, the Green Bay men's golf team took second place at the Chicago State Invitational on Tuesday afternoon at the Harborside International Golf Course in Chicago. As a team, the Phoenix shot a 3-over par 291 in the second round, equaling Valparaiso for the tournament's top team score. Green Bay's 36-hole total was 12-over 588, four shots behind Valparaiso (584).
Senior Tyler Schmidt (Jefferson, Wis.) carded the best round of his career on Tuesday with a 1-under par 71. The impressive day on the course left Schmidt in a tie for second place (145, +1), just one shot behind individual medalist Zach Cutler of Valpo, who used a 4-under 68 on Tuesday to earn the victory. During his round, Schmidt made 15 pars, two birdies and just one bogey.
Sophomore Joe Du Chateau (Fond du Lac, Wis.) and junior Gene Kiela (Plymouth, Wis.) were one shot back of Schmidt in a tie for fourth place. Kiela shot even par 72 on Tuesday while Du Chateau posted his second-straight round of 73.
Green Bay will next be in action at the Coyote Classic in Dakota Dunes, S.C. on Sept. 29-30.
