GREEN BAY, Wis. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) – Director of Athletics Mary Ellen Gillespie announced Friday that the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay will immediately begin a national search for a new head men's basketball coach. Green Bay will be replacing Brian Wardle, who accepted the same position at Bradley University.
“Bradley is getting an excellent coach and an outstanding person in Brian Wardle,” Gillespie said. “He has been a dedicated member of the Phoenix family for ten years and he has built a very competitive program and mentored a great group of young men. We will miss him and his family and wish them all the very best at Bradley.”
Wardle compiled a 95-65 record in five seasons as Green Bay's head coach and also served as an assistant coach with the program for five seasons. The Phoenix went 48-17 in the past two seasons, winning the 2013-14 Horizon League regular season title and also making consecutive appearances in the NIT. Wardle was the 2014 Horizon League Coach of the Year and won the 2014 Skip Prosser Man of the Year Award.
“We are committed to a men's basketball program that competes for championships, succeeds in the classroom and represents our University and community in a positive light, on and off the court,” Gillespie said. “Green Bay basketball has a strong tradition and our next coach will build upon that tradition and take our program to the next level."
Gillespie plans to have no further comment on the coaching search until its conclusion.
