GREEN BAY, Wis. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) – After posting the best round of his career, senior Tom Boockmeier (Green Bay, Wis.) has been named the Horizon League Golfer of the Week, the conference office announced on Wednesday.
On Tuesday, Bookmeier carded eight birdies and posted a 7-under par 65 in the final round of the Big Blue Invitational in Tennessee. The senior's round tied Shaun Rezauchek's program record and helped him to a fourth-place finish. Boockmeier was under par in each of his three rounds and finished the tournament at 9-under par.
During Tuesday's round, Boockmeier had a stretch of six-straight birdies midway through his round.
"Tom is a feel player and even though he was on the other side of 80 earlier this spring, there was no panic and we knew once it warmed a bit his swing would be just fine," head coach Lee Reinke said. "That is exactly what has happened, after shooting an 85 at the Butler Invite in bitter cold conditions he has played even par since in six rounds. He has covered the flag the past two tournaments and the claw grip has allowed him to pick is line on the greens and make putts."
Boockmeier has now won Horizon League Golfer of the Week honors twice in his career, with the first time coming on Sept. 18, 2013.
