ROCHESTER, Mich. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) – The Green Bay men's basketball team was unable to overcome a determined and hot shooting Oakland team on Saturday afternoon, falling 111-93 in its final road game of the 2015-16 season at the Athletics Center O'rena. The Phoenix will now return home for five-straight games before entering the Horizon League Tournament.
Green Bay (15-11, 7-6 HL) fell behind 15-0 to open the game before storming back to take a two-point lead courtesy of a Tevin Findlay three-pointer. The Phoenix would not be able to overcome an 11-0 run by Oakland (18-9, 10-4 HL) after that, taking a 10-point deficit into the locker room and trailing by as many as 35 points in the second half.
The loss marked the 12th-straight game that Green Bay has alternated wins and losses, dating back to the team's January 7 win at Cleveland State. Positively, the Phoenix has not lost back-to-back games since it began the season 0-3 and will look to continue that trend when it welcomes Milwaukee on Monday night.
Jordan Fouse did become the all-time leader in total rebounds at Green Bay in the defeat, registering a team-high eight rebounds to pass Green Bay Athletics Hall of Fame member Dennis Woelffer for first all-time on the career rebounds list. Fouse now has 953 rebounds in his impressive career, adding to his outstanding Green Bay resume after becoming the program's all-time steals leader earlier this season.
The eight team steals in the game by Phoenix increased its season total to 253, setting a new program-record for the most steals in a season. Still with a guaranteed six games remaining, the 2015-16 team will look to add to its record-breaking total, today passing the soon to be inducted Hall of Fame team from 1993-94 that finished with 249 steals
Green Bay was led offensively by Charles Cooper and Tevin Findlay, who each finished with 18 points in the game. Findlay buried a career-high four three-pointers, while Carrington Love added 12 points. Khalil Small contributed nine of his own.
The Phoenix was plagued by 16 turnovers and a 45 points in the paint total by Oakland, but did knock down 10 three-pointers as a team. The balanced scoring for Green Bay continued, as 10 of the 11 dressed players scored at least four points.
Oakland received a 28-point performance from Player of the Year front-runner Kay Felder, who also added seven assists. The Golden Grizzlies converted 12 of 30 three-point shots attempted and made 29-of-33 free throw attempts.
The Phoenix will return home for the first time since Jan. 25, when it hosts in-state rival Milwaukee at the Resch Center on Monday (Feb. 15) night at 7 p.m. The game will be one two Bud Light Night ($2 24 oz. Bud Lights) games for the Phoenix this year.
