Love and Fouse Collect All-League, All-Defensive Team Honors

By: Joey Daniels (@GBPHOENIXMBB)

GREEN BAY, Wis. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) – Three days after soaking in a Senior Day ceremony and playing their final game at the Resch Center, Green Bay seniors Carrington Love and Jordan Fouse were recognized on Tuesday afternoon by being named to the Horizon League All-League teams, as well as the All-Defensive team, the league announced on Tuesday. Love landed on the All-League First Team and Fouse earned All-League Second Team honors, while both landed on the league's All-Defensive Team.

Fouse becomes just the second player in conference history to be selected to the Horizon League All-Defensive team four-consecutive years, joining former Phoenix star Terry Evans (2006-09).

Both players have played in a combined 258 career games, which at 129 individually is third most in program history behind Evans and Troy Cotton (131). Additionally, the tandem will soon become the first-ever Green Bay senior class to have a winning record all four years on campus.

A member of the 1,000-point club and the new school-record holder for most steals in a season (78), Love has earned postseason accolades for the first time of his career, joining Keifer Sykes and Alec Brown among Green Bay's recent First-Team honorees. It marks the fifth-straight season the Phoenix has had a representative among the conference's five-best players as voted on by media members, head coaches and sports information directors.

The 6-foot-1 guard thrived in first-year head coach Linc Darner's system, nearly doubling his points per game average from a season ago. He paced Green Bay's offense to the tune of 18.5 points per contest– the fifth highest average in the league, which included 12 of Green Bay's 20-point scoring games.

In one of those 12, a 20-point game against Chicago State on Jan. 19, the Milwaukee native became the 27th player in school history to reach the 1,000-point club, and his 567 points thus far in 2015-16 ranks among the top-five highest single-season point totals by a Phoenix senior ever, currently 39 points away from Tony Bennett (605) for fourth-place.

Love's signature game came on Feb. 20 in Green Bay's come-from-behind 107-90 win over Youngstown State, when he finished with a career-high 39 points on 14-for-27 shooting, including 8-of-20 from downtown. His performance ranks as the second-highest scoring game in Resch Center history (40, Alec Brown, 2/21/13 vs. Fairfield), and the sixth-highest in program history (45, Ray Willis, 2/9/71 vs. UW-Parkside).

Two days later, the guard recorded yet another career high with seven steals against Cleveland State, leaping his teammate Fouse for the single-season record for steals. Love will enter the 2016 Horizon League Tournament this weekend in Detroit ranking fourth in program history in that category with 189, eight away from tying Rahmon Fletcher for third. And while Green Bay leads the NCAA in total steals (305), he has been a major catalyst, ranking sixth in the nation in steals per game at 2.52.

On Nov. 16, 2015, Love was named the Horizon League Player of the Week for the second time of his career after scoring a then-career-high 32 points in a career-high 39 minutes in the Phoenix's 93-89 overtime loss at Stanford. He's led the team in scoring 13 times in all, including in his final appearances at the Kohl Center (28 pts) and the UWM Panther Arena (24 pts) against the Wisconsin Badgers and Milwaukee Panthers, respectively.

Jordan Fouse

All-Defensive Team

It's not often that a player comes along that not only plays, but starts, in every game of a four-year basketball career. Fouse was one of those players. A defensive force from day one in Green Bay, the Racine native has earned his first career All-League honor, in addition to being named to his fourth-consecutive All-Defensive Team.

Fouse will end his career atop the Phoenix all-time record book in career rebounds (999), steals (256), games started (129), and is second in blocks (179) behind only Alec Brown. With four steals on Feb. 20, the 6-foot-7 forward set a new Horizon League record for career steals, formerly held by Youngstown State's Kendrick Perry, and currently ranks second among all active Division I players in that category behind Texas A&M's Alex Caruso (261).

On the offensive end, Fouse has come into his own this past season, putting up a career-high 30 points along with 14 rebounds in the Phoenix's thrilling 115-108 overtime win against Detroit on Jan. 25. Like his classmate, he also became one of 28 players in program history to score 1,000 career points, while posting a team-high 10 double-doubles, the most since Randy Berry in 2009-10 (10).

On Dec. 7, 2015, Fouse was named the Horizon League Player of the Week for the first time in his career after scoring a then-career-high 22 points in Green Bay's 87-69 road victory over SIUE. As of March 1, he has led Green Bay in rebounding and blocks a team-best 14 times and nine times, respectively.

Fouse is the only player in the nation to have at least 15 points, 10 rebounds and 5 steals in two contests this season (Nov. 17 at East Tennessee State and Dec. 6 vs. Toledo), and one of just eight Division I players over the last five years have accomplished the feat multiple times, a list that includes current NBA players Marcus Smart (Oklahoma State, 2013-14, twice) and C.J. McCollum (2011-12, Lehigh, twice).

With one more rebound, he will become the only player in NCAA Division I basketball since 1994-95 to post at least 1,000 points, 1,000 rebounds, 350 assists and 250 steals over the course of his career.)

Green Bay will be the conference's No. 4 overall seed in the upcoming Horizon League Championship in Detroit, and will take on the No. 9-seeded Cleveland State Vikings (9-22, 4-14 HL) in the opening round on Saturday, March 5 at 11 a.m. CT at Joe Louis Arena. In two meetings against CSU this season, the Phoenix won by a combined 37 points, including a 17-point win on Feb. 22, 78-61.
