Series History
Green Bay is 45-29 all-time against Cleveland State and has won nine of the last 11 meetings overall in the series. The Phoenix won 76-75 in overtime in Cleveland on Dec. 29, earlier this season.
NOTABLES
- Green Bayhas dropped two straight league games, but a win on Monday will put them all alone in second place in the Horizon League
- The team beat Cleveland State in overtime earlier this year, 76-75
- The Phoenix lost 92-89 to Youngstown State on Friday night, the first time it lost at home to the Penguins since 2003
- Head coach Linc Darner started Trevor Anderson, Khalil Small, Turner Botz, Kerem Kanter and Charles Cooper on Friday night, snapping a streak of seven-straight games with a lineup that featured Kenneth Lowe starting and not Cooper.
RECENT OUTING
Green Bay dropped its second-straight league game of the season on Friday night, falling 92-89 to Youngstown State at the Resch Center in the annual BlackOut Cancer Game. The Phoenix (11-8, 5-2) led for the majority of the game, but a late three-pointer by the Penguins (9-12, 3-5 HL) proved to be the difference in the game.
Following the Santiago three-pointer, Youngstown State fouled Green Bay to prevent the tie. After both teams exchanged free throws, Trevor Anderson's three-pointer at the buzzer was off the mark.
Kerem Kanter led Green Bay with 21 points and six rebounds, while Charles Cooper scored 18 and grabbed seven boards. Warren Jones went 5-for-5 at the free throw line and recorded 13 points. Khalil Small was the other player to finish in double figures for the Phoenix, tallying 10 points.
IN THE HOUSE
The Phoenix has won six of its eight games at home this year and suffered its first home Horizon League loss of the season to Youngstown State. A total of five players are averaging in double figures in home games this year, led by Charles Cooper's 13.9 PPG. Jamar Hurdle (12.6 PPG), Kerem Kanter (12.3 PPG), Warren Jones (10.6 PPG) and Khalil Small (10.5 PPG) are all scoring 10-plus points per game at the Resch Center. The team is averaging 10.3 steals per game at home and 5.6 blocks. Green Bay will host Cleveland State in hopes of picking up another home win.
WINS vs. LOSSES
Green Bay is averaging 85.5 PPG in games it has won this year, compared to just 71.8 PPG in games it has come out on the losing end. The team is shooting 47.4 percent in wins and 38.4 percent in losses and is also enjoying a plus-15.2 scoring margin in victories versus a negative-14.5 margin in losses. The Phoenix has a plus rebounding margin and turnover margin, compared to a negative margin in losses as well. Green Bay prides itself on forcing turnovers and getting steals, when it does that successfully, it usually results in wins. When it doesn't, a loss is more likely.
UNABLE TO BOUNCE BACK
Before Friday night, since the start of the 2013-14 season, Green Bay had only lost back-to-back Horizon League games one time. Last year the Phoenix dropped a road contest at Valparaiso and then fell at home to Oakland, the top two teams in the Horizon League standings at the end of last season. The team went 5-1 last year and is now a combined 11-2 since the 2013-14 season in games after a Horizon League loss.
FACING THE VIKINGS
The Phoenix has won nine of the last 11 games against Cleveland State, including an overtime victory earlier this season. Green Bay bested CSU in the First Round of last year's Horizon League Tournament as well, which was the first-ever #MotorCityMadness game played. Green Bay has won by an average of 12.5 points during the current four-game winning streak against the Vikings.
