HIGHLAND, Mich. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) – Freshman Ben Gilles finished in second place overall and the Green Bay men's golf team placed fourth at the Titans Motown Collegiate, played on Monday and Tuesday at Prestwick Village Golf Club (Par 72; 7,142 yards) in Highland, Michigan. Gilles finished 3-over par, shooting a final round 72 on Tuesday to finish 3 strokes behind David Szymanski of Robert Morris, who finished at even par to claim the individual crown.
Gilles, a native of Madison, shot a 4-over 76 in the first round, but came back strong with a second round 71 and final round 72. He parred the final five holes of the final round and played his best stretch of golf to start the back nine holes of the second round. Gilles opened with three-straight birdies and recorded a fourth birdie of the round on the 15th hole, finishing 3-under on the back nine and 1-under for the round.
Jimmy Albright (+11) and Brady Sarauer (+14) both finished in the Top 25.
As a team, Green Bay played its best round in the final round, shooting a combined 298, which was the second-lowest combined team score of any round in the tournament.
The tournament concluded the Phoenix's fall season, and will return to competitive action in March at the Twin Oaks Intercollegiate in Springfield, Missouri.
