GREEN BAY, Wis. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) – The Green Bay women's basketball team looked to be in midseason form on Thursday night in front of a packed house celebrating the 10th-anniversary of the Kress Events Center, cruising to an 87-49 exhibition victory over Michigan Tech in its final matchup before tipping off the regular season.
The Phoenix made a statement early against the Huskies, dominating its way to an 18-3 lead after the first 3 minutes, 47 seconds of play. At the half, Green Bay held a 43-21 advantage and
Allie LeClaire headed to the locker room with 11 points on a perfect 5-for-5 effort from the field.
Michigan Tech was unable to fight its way back from the overwhelming deficit as the Phoenix held the Huskies to 19-57 (33.3%) from the field and 10-33 (30.3%) from long range. Green Bay's defense forced 16 Michigan Tech turnovers while the Phoenix limited its own offensive efforts to just eight.
LeClaire poured in 15 points in 19 minutes and
Jessica Lindstrom scored nine as the senior duo combined for 24 points on a perfect 9-9 shooting mark. Lindstrom pulled down eight rebounds and doled out three assists in 20 minutes.
Green Bay dominated down low all evening, outscoring Michigan Tech 50-10 inside the paint. The Phoenix also owned a substantial advantage in points off turnovers, 19-6.
Laken James reached double figures with 10 points on a 4-of-9 shooting clip in 27 minutes.
Alex Luehring joined LeClaire and James as a double-digit contributor for Green Bay, tallying 10 points on a 3-of-7 mark from the field along with a 2-for-4 effort from beyond the arc.
All 11 Phoenix players to take the floor in the matchup scored on the evening.
Green Bay will officially open the 2017-18 campaign on Saturday, Nov. 11 at home against Chattanooga with tipoff slated for 12 p.m.
