GAME NOTES

STARTING WITH A "W"
Including its victory over Detroit Mercy on Thursday night to start the HL season 1-0, GB has now won its league-opener in each of the last five seasons. Green Bay has also started the conference season off with a 3-0 record in Horizon League play over the past four seasons, and even opened up last year with a 5-0 record. GB went 12-6 in HL play last season, finishing in the top half of the league standings for the fifth-straight season. Additionally, the Phoenix has gone 49-19 in Horizon League games over those four seasons, the second-best record of any HL team (Valparaiso went 52-16 over the last four seasons). With the departure of the Crusaders from the conference, Green Bay returns as the program with the highest winning percentage in league games among all HL teams. Getting off to a strong start this season will certainly be a challenge, as Green Bay will play 8 Horizon League games in the first 18 days of the league schedule, and 7 in the first 15 days.

FACING THE GOLDEN GRIZZLIES
Green Bay and Oakland are dead even at 7-7 in the all-time series, with the two teams splitting the two meetings last year. GB won at Oakland 80-72, before falling 85-72 at home. Since Oakland joined the Horizon League beginning in the 2013-14 season, the two teams have split the eight meetings over the last four seasons. Like Green Bay, Oakland has also finished in the top half of the league standings in each of the last three seasons.

CAREERING COHEN
In just his third active game in a Green Bay uniform, Sandy Cohen III scored a career-high 24 points in his team's 95-83 win over Detroit Mercy, logging a career-high 39 minutes. It appears Cohen III has shaken off the rust after not playing in 400 days, having now scored in double-figures in all 3 games back and is averaging a team-high 17.7 PPG. The Seymour native is second on the team in rebounding with 5.0 RPG and is shooting 47.6 percent from the field.

BALLING BAINS
JUCO-transfer Sukhjot Bains, who has played in all 14 games this season, enjoyed a career night on Thursday against Detroit Mercy, scoring 16 points on 6-of-8 shooting. Bains played 22 minutes and was consistent around the basket all game, also grabbing 6 rebounds. It's only the second time all season Bains has reached double-figures, while the 16 points scored is more than he scored in his last five games combined.

KONSISTENT KHALIL
Senior Khalil Small might be getting overlooked with the debut of Sandy Cohen III, but that's a mistake. Small has now scored in double-figures in all 14 games this season, the most by any HL player this year and one of only four players in the league to have 10 or more in every game they've played (Drew McDonald, Kendrick Nunn, Jalen Hayes). Small is 7th in the HL in scoring with 15.9 PPG and notched 17 in the HL-opener against Detroit Mercy. The Chicago native has been consistent all season.

PIPES PRODUCTION
Freshman PJ Pipes has been enjoying his best stretch of basketball of his young career, having now scored 11 or more points in five-straight games after netting another 13 points in the victory over Detroit Mercy. Pipes is averaging 12.6 PPG over his last five, and was reinserted into the starting lineup on Thursday night as part of a matchup scheme against the Titans. Pipes played 20 minutes and finished 6-for-7 from the free throw line, grabbing two steals and converting his only 3-point attempt.
