WEST DES MOINES, Iowa (GreenBayPhoenix.com) – The Green Bay Men's Golf team traveled to West Des Moines, Iowa, for the Zach Johnson Invitational this week, finishing ninth at the event at the Glen Oaks Country Club.
Ben Gilles led the team, finishing 8-over par, tying for 15th overall in the tournament. Freshman Ryan Schuelke tied for 28th while Max Pasher placed within the top 50 as well.
Gilles started strong by shooting a solid 72 (+1) in the first round, before shooting a 74 in the second round and 75 in the third.
Green Bay collectively had 47 pars and 13 birdies, but no eagles. The Glen Oaks Country Club is not known to be an easy course, with the winning team finishing 27-over par.
This tournament marked the half way point of the season, as the Phoenix looks to improve its shots for the second half. They will travel to Westlake, Ohio, on October 8-9 where Cleveland State will host the Tom Tontimonia Invitational.
