Team Notes

WINNING WAYS
Green Bay picked up a pair of much-need victories last week, taking down Cleveland State and Youngstown State at the Resch Center. The Phoenix enjoyed a +20.0 scoring margin in the two games, outscoring its opponents 75.5-55.5 combined. Khalil Small led the team in the two wins, averaging 26.0 PPG while playing 37.5 MPG. GB enjoyed a +4.5 turnover margin and knocked down 19 3-pointers in those two games, with both victories avenging earlier defeats on the road. Green Bay will chase its first three-game winning streak of the season in the game at Milwaukee.

PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Senior Khalil Small led the Phoenix to a pair of home wins over Cleveland State (66-44) and Youngstown State (85-67) as his team won by an average margin of 20 points in the two games. Small averaged 26.0 points per game in the two victories, scoring 27 points against CSU on Thursday and following that up with 25 points against YSU on Saturday. Cumulatively, he went a perfect 14-for-14 at the free throw line, playing a team-high 37.5 minutes per game while shooting 48.6 percent (17-for-35). The Chicago native also averaged 6.5 rebounds and recorded six assists and five steals. Small is second in the Horizon League in scoring with 20.5 PPG in league games and has now scored 20-plus points in seven of his last nine outings.

SEEKING A SWEEP
When Green Bay takes on its in-state rival on Friday night, it will be chasing the season sweep for the third time in the last four seasons. The Phoenix is 7-1 against the Panthers over the past four seasons, sweeping them last season and two years prior to that, while winning two of the three meetings in 2015-16 with GB's win in the Horizon League Tournament. More importantly, this meeting will be for fifth-place in the Horizon League, with both teams standing at 5-7 and the winner gaining sole possession of 5th with a 6-7 record, still looking for an upper-half finish in the HL standings. The Phoenix will be looking for its first road win of the season, currently 0-10.

LOCKED IN
The Green Bay defense was locked in against Cleveland State in Thursday's 66-44 victory, allowing its third-fewest points against a league opponent in the Horizon League era. It's the fewest points the Phoenix has allowed under the leadership of head coach Linc Darner and the 27.7 percent CSU shot is the lowest field goal percentage Green Bay has allowed against a Horizon League opponent since Mar. 5, 2013, when GB held Milwaukee to 26.5 percent shooting in a 62-46 victory.

BALANCED ATTACK
In Green Bay's 85-67 win over Youngstown State, four players finished in double-figures, with three of those players being starters. GB is now 7-4 this season when four players or more record double-figures and is also 7-0 when scoring 80 or more points this season, and is 5-0 when allowing fewer than 60 points.
le with 11 points and 13 rebounds, while Crist put up 12 points off the bench in valuable minutes. GB won by 22, its largest margin of victory in a D1 game this season, despite getting only a combined 4 points from Sandy Cohen III and Kam Hankerson.

SMALL CLIMBING THE LADDER
Khalil Small notched his 1,000th career point on Jan. 4, becoming just the 28th player in program history to reach that milestone. He has scored in double-figures in 24 of 25 games this year, the most double-figure scoring games by any HL player this season. Below is where Small ranks all-time in career scoring at UWGB:

16.    Troy Cotton (2006-10) – 1251
17.    Matt Rohde (2001-05) – 1194
18.    Khalil Small (2014-18) - 1185
19.    Ryan Evanochko (2003-07) – 1184
20.    Joe Mauel (1978-82) – 1170
