GREEN BAY, Wis. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) – It was Senior Day on Sunday afternoon at the Kress Center, with
Allie LeClaire and
Jessica Lindstrom being honored for their contributions to the Phoenix program over the past four years. The senior duo, much like it has over the past four season, led Green Bay to an 88-45 victory over Detroit Mercy.
Although the Titans were on the board first, the game was never in question as the Phoenix quickly responded with a 7-0 run to take control and force UDM to call a timeout.
It wasn't long before history seemed to repeat itself, as another 7-0 run forced the Titans to take their second timeout in the first quarter with Green Bay leading 17-7 after a jumper from
Laken James.
Jessica Lindstrom scored a game-high 19 points and pulled down 14 rebounds for her 16th double-double of the season and 39th of her career. The senior forward finished an efficient 7-of-14 from the floor in 27 minutes before leaving to a standing ovation.
The longer the game went on, the more Green Bay seemed to be in control. The Phoenix advantage reached 30 points with 4:17 remaining in the third after
Mackenzie Wolf knocked down a jump shot.
Allie LeClaire scored 18 points on a 6-for-13 effort from the field and directed the Phoenix offense with three assists in her final game at the Kress Center. LeClaire continued her climb of Green Bay's all-time scoring list in the matchup, passing Kim Wood for ninth place and bringing her career total to 1,411 points.
The seniors walked to the bench and off the floor for the final time at the Kress Center with 6:59 left on the clock, and Phoenix fans showed their appreciation with an eruption of applause.
The Green Bay defense held Detroit Mercy to just 15-of-49 from the field and 6-of-20 from long range. The Phoenix also forced 20 turnovers on the afternoon and took full advantage on the scoreboard, owning a 25-2 edge in points off the miscues.
Green Bay honored its seniors with its highest point total of the season, as the Phoenix poured in 88 points with 10 different members of the team making contributions.
Karly Murphy reached double digits for the second-straight game, scoring 10 points on 3-of-4 shooting and a 4-of-6 performance at the line.
The Phoenix will play as the No. 1 seed at the Horizon League Tournament in Detroit, Mich., with its first action coming in the Quarterfinals on March 3 at 1:30 p.m. CT.
