GREEN BAY, Wis. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) --- The 2019 campaign came to an end for the Green Bay men's soccer team on Monday afternoon at Aldo Santaga Stadium, as visiting Wright State managed to escape with a 1-0 victory and advance to the semifinals in Chicago, Ill.
The Phoenix played from behind for the majority of the match, as WSU's Ids Hannema found the back of the net in the 10th minute. Green Bay appeared to tie the game in the first half after a charging
Fredi Ortega was able to beat the keeper on the right side, but the Phoenix forward was deemed offsides and the goal was taken off the board.
Green Bay was unable to match the Raiders' attack throughout the game, with Wright State owning a strong advantage in shots (19-3) and shots on goal (10-1).
Jamison Yoder was a bright spot for the Phoenix while protecting the net, as the junior tallied a career-high nine saves and continued to keep Green Bay within striking distance as time was winding down.
The Phoenix was forced to play a man down for the final 10 minutes after a red card was issued to
Marcus Del Vecchio. Green Bay continued to apply pressure despite the one-man disadvantage, with
Jack Bradford nearly knotting the game at one-all with a header in the 88th minute off a corner kick from
Fredi Ortega.
Green Bay's final attempts came up short as the Phoenix fell in the quarterfinals to Wright State, 1-0. The Phoenix bids farewell to a talented group of seniors in
