INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. --- For the second time in four weeks to begin the 2019-20 season, Green Bay freshman guard
Amari Davis has been named the Horizon League Freshman of the Week, the league office announced on Monday. Davis is the first two-time winner of the weekly awards for men's basketball this year, enjoying one of the best weeks by a freshman at GB in program history. Since the award began in the 2013-14 season, Davis is the first Phoenix player to earn the award multiple times in a season.
Davis' week: Amari Davis officially arrived on the Horizon League scene this past week for Green Bay, earning his first career start and averaging 20.7 PPG in his team's three games. Davis opened the week with 15 points against CSUN and followed that up with 19 versus Colgate, earning himself a spot on the Roman Legends Classic Subregional All-Tournament Team. The left-handed guard then earned the start at Montana State on Saturday, pouring in a career-high 28 points in his team's 98-72 win on the road, where he also led the team with seven rebounds. Davis' efforts helped GB go 2-1 on the week, and he now leads the team in scoring through seven games with 16.3 PPG, having scored in double-figures in all seven games this year. He also shot a scorching 60 percent from the field in the three games.
Up next for Green Bay is a tough trip to No. 25 Xavier on Wednesday (12/4) night in Cincinnati.
