LAST GAME'S STARTERS
LAST TIME OUT (IUPUI 93, @Green Bay 78; January 5)
- IUPUI hit a season-high 14 3-pointers and Green Bay fell 93-78 at the Resch Center on Sunday afternoon in its second home game in a stretch of five. The Phoenix (7-102-2 HL) got 18 points from guard PJ Pipes, but the visiting Jaguars (5-12, 1-3 HL) shot 48 percent (31-for-64) from the field and received 31 points from Jaylen Minnett.
- GB was gunning for its third-straight League win and its first-ever win over IUPUI since they joined the Horizon League two seasons ago, but couldn't keep pace with the hot-shooting Jaguars. GB fell behind early in the game and trailed by as many as 25 points, never leading in the contest.
- Amari Davis scored 10 points and Manny Patterson added 10 of his own, while Josh McNair had 12 points in his second game back off the injury.
- The Phoenix made a late bid at a comeback, going on a 13-1 run and holding IUPUI scoreless for over 2:30. The hole was too large though, even with IUPUI not making a field goal the final 6 minutes of the game.
SERIES HISTORY
- MILWAUKEE: The in-state rivals will meet for the 65th time on Saturday night, with Green Bay holding the 39-25 edge including a win in seven of the last eight games. GB is 23-9 all-time at home against the Panthers and has won five-straight games at home in the series as well. The Phoenix won both meetings last season, winning by 10 and 16 points. Under head coach Linc Darner, Green Bay is 7-2 against Milwaukee.
ABOUT MILWAUKEE
ABOUT GREEN BAY...
AMARI HIGH FIVE
- For a fifth time this season, Green Bay freshman guard Amari Davis has been named the Horizon League Freshman of the Week, the league office announced on Monday. Davis helped GB take down UIC on Friday night and leads the team in scoring with 15.5 PPG. Since the award began in the 2013-14 season, Davis is the first Phoenix player to earn the award multiple times in a season, and is just the 6th player in the history of the award to win five or more times.
Davis' week: Davis led the Phoenix with a game-high 21 points in Green Bay's convincing 85-71 win over UIC at the Resch Center, also grabbing 5 rebounds. Davis came back on Sunday to score 10 points against IUPUI, averaging 15.5 PPG on the week and 4.5 RPG. He continues to lead GB in scoring with 15.5 PPG and has three 20-plus point efforts this season, including double-figure scoring games in 14 of 17 games this season.
POWER OVER PANTHERS
- Since head coach Linc Darner took over prior to the 2015-16 season, Green Bay has won seven of the nine meetings, which includes a win in the Horizon League Tournament his first season on their way to the league title. GB has won seven out of eight games in the series and Darner has not lost at home to Milwaukee (4-0). In the seven wins since that time, GB is averaging just over 84 PPG and has scored 90 points or more four times. GB will travel to Milwaukee for the second meeting on Feb. 15.
HL STANDINGS UPDATE
- Four games into the league season, Green Bay sits at 2-2 in league play, tied for fourth place. Wright State leads the table at 4-0, with Youngstown State and Cleveland State both at 2-1. GB and Milwaukee are both tied at 2-2, along with NKU. The top two seeds will receive a bye to the semifinals, with the 3-6 seeds receiving a home game in the first round. Oakland, Detroit Mercy, UIC and IUPUI all have 1 win in league play thus far.
PIPES IT UP
- Making his best effort to bring GB back and defeat IUPUI, PJ Pipes led the Phoenix with 18 points on a career-high 6 made 3-pointers. The team's impressive road win at NKU would not have been possible if not for the career-high 20 points by junior point guard PJ Pipes. Pipes was on fire, shooting 8-for-10, hitting four 3-pointers and playing 35 minutes of action for his first 20-point game of his career. Pipes' previous high was 17 points, which he scored twice earlier this season. The Woodridge, Illinois native is now third on the team in scoring with 12.1 PPG and has reached double-figures in four of his last five games. He has connected on 12 made 3-pointers over his last three games.
MR. MCCLOUD
- Sharpshooting senior JayQuan McCloud has been the consistent and reliable option for the Phoenix offensively, scoring in double-figures in 15 of 17 games this season, but went just 1-for-11 against IUPUI on Sunday. Looking to bounce back against Milwaukee, McCloud ranks 10th in the HL in scoring with 14.6 PPG and is second on the team, knocking down a team-best 39 3-pointers. McCloud was named Horizon League Player of the Week three weeks ago, after dumping a career-high 32 points in a road win at Northern Illinois. The Preseason All-Horizon League selection is on pace to score 1,000 career points in only two seasons on the team.
PATTERSON POWERBALL
- Junior Manny Patterson continues to be presence inside, having scored in double-figures five of his last seven games with three double-doubles in that stretch. He had 12 points and grabbed six rebounds in his last game against IUPUI. The power forward dumped 15 points and grabbed 10 rebounds in his team's win at NKU, two games after pouring in 15 at Northern Illinois. Patterson's impressive play started at the Resch Center against Evansville, when he scored 10 points and had 10 rebounds. He came back the next game with the best game of his career, scoring a career-high 20 points and grabbing a career-high 16 rebounds as well. Starting in the last three games, the Chicago-native played a career 30 minutes at NKU.

NOTABLE NO. 900
- Green Bay set a pair of school records in the 126-64 win over Concordia Univ. Chicago on December 18 at the Kress Center, scoring the most points ever in a game and making the most field goals as well (51). All eight players had at least 10 points in the game, a product of the season-high 28 assists. GB shot a season-high 65.4 percent from the field, pouring in a program-record 72 points in the first half alone. GB also registered 19 steals, tied for fourth all time in a single game. The win marked the 900th win in program history, which started back in 1969, an average of around 18 wins a season.
FOUR SCORE
- Green Bay has four players averaging in double-figures this season, with all four playing the guard position. Amari Davis (15.5 PPG), JayQuan McCloud (15.4 PPG), PJ Pipes (11.7 PPG) and Kameron Hankerson (10.9 PPG) are all averaging over 10 points per game to lead the way offensively. Davis and McCloud rank in the Top 10 of the Horizon League, with Pipes coming off a career-high 20 points at NKU.
DAPPER DAVIS
- Green Bay and head coach Linc Darner boast what appears to be the best freshman in the Horizon League in Amari Davis. Davis leads the team in scoring with 15.5 PPG and ranks 5th in the HL, and in the top 10 of all freshmen in the NCAA. The Ohio native has scored in double-figures in 13 out of 16 games this season and was recently named Horizon League Freshman of the Week for a fifth time. He is second in the HL in field goal percentage, shooting 53.4 percent on the season, and scored double-figures in both games last weekend against UIC and IUPUI. Davis has gotten off to the best start, statistically speaking, by any freshman in program history save for all-time great Tony Bennett. Bennett averaged 19.1 PPG as a freshman and scored 516 points in 27 games. Davis is currently on pace to score 524 points, if the team plays its scheduled minimum 32 (31 regular season, 1 tournament). Long way to go, but through 17 games this season, Davis has been the story of the league.

The HL preseason poll has GB tabbed fifth, behind Wright State, NKU, UIC and Oakland.
