YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- Green Bay earned a crucial split in Friday's doubleheader with league-leading Youngstown State, falling in game one, 3-0, before bouncing back with a 6-5 win in extra innings.Â

The Green Bay Phoenix were not able to record a run against Youngstown State pitcher Elle Buffenbarger on in the series opener and were shut out 3-0 by the Penguins.
Junior Kayla Schwebke (8-6) got the ball to start for Green Bay (16-13, 11-10) and took the loss. The right-hander went six innings, giving up three runs, one earned, on five hits, allowing three walks and striking out seven.
At the plate, the Phoenix were paced by sophomore Alyssa Brewer, who went 2-for-3 on the day with a double.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Green Bay managed one chance with runners on third in the shutout, going a total of 0-for-4 with runners in scoring position. The Phoenix last got a runner on third in the fifth, when freshman Hailey Heckenlaible made it 60 feet away from scoring with nobody out.

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio --The Green Bay Phoenix needed nine innings to get the job done, but earned the 6-5 extra-innings victory over the Youngstown State Penguins Friday.
Sophomore Brittany Baneck (7-1) got the win for Green Bay (17-13, 12-10). The right-hander went nine innings, giving up five runs, all of them earned, on eight hits, allowing five walks and striking out four.
In the batter's box, the Phoenix were paced by junior Crystal Guzman, who went 3-for-5 on the day with a double and two RBIs. Sophomore Alyssa Brewer put together a standout effort as well, going 3-for-5 with two RBIs. Freshman Jadin Justman also contributed for Green Bay, putting together one hit in two trips to the plate while adding a double, a walk and an RBI.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Trailing 4-0, the Phoenix first put runs on the board in the second inning. Green Bay plated two runs off of Youngstown State pitching, one of which was driven in on a run-scoring double off the bat of Guzman.
The Phoenix kept the Penguins off the board before narrowing the gap further in the third. Green Bay scored once on an RBI single off the bat of Guzman, which tightened the Penguins lead to 4-3.
Green Bay kept the Penguins off the board before rallying to grab a 5-4 lead in the fourth. The Phoenix scored two runs when a single from Brewer brought home junior Morgan Bihun and sophomore Tiffany Giese.
The Penguins then tied the ballgame at five before Green Bay came back to retake their advantage in the ninth inning. The Phoenix drove home a run on Justman's one-out RBI double, bringing the score to 6-5 in favor of Green Bay. The score remained 6-5 for the rest of the game, as the Phoenix held on for the win.
