Green Bay and Northern Michigan Finish in 1-1 Tie After Weather Ends Match Early

GREEN BAY, Wis. -- Green Bay trailed Northern Mich. 1-0 at halftime, but rallied to tie up the game at 1-1 Friday (Aug. 27) at home at Aldo Santaga Stadium in the regular-season opener.

The game was called with 80:28 in the second half, after lightning caused an initial delay before both teams agreed to cancel after the inclement weather wasn't going away anytime soon.

How it Happened

Northern Mich. broke the scoreless tie when Justina L'esperance scored in the ninth minute, assisted by Isabela Cardoso.

The Phoenix responded to tie it on a goal from Sophie Heyboer -- her first goal of the season -- in the 65th minute, assisted by Maria Wiefering and McKayla Kertscher. Neither team tacked on another goal in the game.

Game Notes

  • Green Bay received two yellow cards.
  • Annie Mason totaled two saves for the Phoenix out of five total Wildcats shots.
  • Green Bay put one shot on goal but made it count
