GREEN BAY, Wis. -- The Green Bay men's basketball team had a strong first half but was unable to keep pace with Wright State Wednesday night, falling 79-62.
The Phoenix (4-19, 3-11) had three players score in double figures, led by Kamari McGee's career-high 24 points. McGee also contributed with five rebounds and three steals. Nate Jenkins tacked on 12 points and five assists, while Emmanuel Ansong helped out with 10 points and seven rebounds.
Tanner Holden led the way for the Raiders, scoring 21 points in 34 minutes and pulling down seven rebounds.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Wright State came out of the gates hot, quickly grabbing an 8-0 lead after an emphatic Holden dunk. Green Bay would mount a steady comeback attempt after, outscoring the Raiders 28-18 to eventually take a 28-26 lead with 4:32 to go after Cem Kirciman made a jumper in the paint. From there, the teams would play tug-of-war, but WSU came out slightly ahead, holding a 38-34 lead going into intermission. Jenkins led the Phoenix with eight points at the break, and McGee was just getting started, filling up the stat sheet with 3 steals, two rebounds, and an assist.
After a slow start for each team, Kamari McGee started the scoring with a free throw and a jumper, getting GB within three at 40-37 with 18:04 to play. Wright State began to pull away, however, taking advantage of the Phoenix going cold. Nate Jenkins would drop in a jumper that made it 50-41 with 13:58 to go to halt a 10-2 run. The Raiders would ensue with another 16-3 run, capped off by a pair of Holden free throws. McGee would do some damage down the stretch for Green Bay, scoring the team's final 12 points by getting crafty in the paint and knocking down a triple. He scored 15 of his 24 points in the second half.

The Phoenix will welcome Northern Kentucky to the Kress Center on Friday for a 7 p.m. tip-off. Following that, they'll close the week out with a 1 p.m. showdown at Milwaukee on Sunday, Feb. 13.
