Green Bay Drops Pair of Games to Open UE Invitational

EVANSVILLE, Ind. -- The Green Bay softball team opened the UE Softball Invitational on Friday facing a pair of tough opponents, falling 6-4 to tournament host Evansville and 11-2 to Big East member Creighton.

The Phoenix will hit the diamond in Evansville again on Saturday facing Bowling Green and Creighton for a second time.

Creighton 11, Green Bay 2
Peters' two extra base hits were the highlight of a 2-for-2 day, and included a double, a home run, a walk and an RBI. Sophomore Jadin Justman furnished a noteworthy effort as well, going 1-for-2 with a home run and an RBI. Senior Tiffany Giese also contributed for the Phoenix, putting together one hit in three trips to the plate while adding a double.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Trailing 1-0, the Phoenix first put runs on the board in the second inning. Justman put Green Bay on the board with a leadoff home run off freshman Alexis Wiggins.

The Bluejays broke the tie and re-took the lead heading into the fourth inning, when the Phoenix got back on the scoreboard. Green Bay picked up a run on Peters' one-out solo home run off of Wiggins, which brought the score to 6-2 in favor of the Bluejays. The Phoenix were unable to get any closer, as Creighton added five runs to their tally on the way to an 11-2 final.
