Green Bay Volleyball to Host "Attacking Alzheimer's" Night

Caregivers Offered Free TIckets

GREEN BAY, Wis. – On Friday, October 27 the UW-Green Bay's Women's Volleyball team will host their annual "Attacking Alzheimer's" event. The match will be held at 6:00 p.m. at the Kress Events Center as the Phoenix take on the Robert Morris Colonials. Caregivers will be a special focus of the evening, and will be honored between the second and third periods.  Complimentary tickets to the game will also be provided to caregivers and their loves one with dementia. Tickets can be arranged by contacting Cari Josephson at 920.609.1342 or signing up at https://bit.ly/46BRiO33

Head Coach Abbey Sutherland is passionate about raising awareness and funds for this devastating disease in honor of her mother, Rhonda, who was diagnosed with early-onset Alzheimer's in her mid- 50's and passed away on December 27, 2022 after a long battle. Abbey's Dad, Rob Sutherland, a former caregiver for his beloved wife, Rhonda, has been instrumental in organizing this annual event, and fundraising behind the scenes.

"What I learned through this journey is people need help," said Rob Sutherland. "That's a message that caregivers need to hear too. There are people to help you. Don't be too proud to ask. And by all means, take care of yourself. That's why we are offering complimentary tickets to the Attacking Alz game to all caregivers and their loved ones impacted by dementia. It's a chance to get out of the house and enjoy some much-needed respite from the day-to-day responsibilities of caregiving."

The evening is anticipated to surpass last year's fundraising success of nearly $9,000. All proceeds from the event will benefit the Walk to End Alzheimer's in Green Bay. Everyone is welcome and tickets for the game can be purchased at https://bit.ly/ATTACKALZ23. In addition to the special caregiver recognition, there will be a 50/50 raffle and an exciting Miracle Minute where volunteers dash through the stands to collect cash donations. For those who can't make the game but want to support the cause, donations can be made at  https://act.alz.org/goto/UWGBvolleyball
