INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The Horizon League announced the 2023 All-Academic Team Tuesday afternoon, and three Phoenix garnered honors. Tobias Jahn, Josh Johansen, and Hesron Barry each received an accolade.
Jahn and Johansen were tabbed to the All-Academic Team last season, marking the first time their name had made the list. Jahn has been arguably the Horizon League's best goalkeeper this season, surrendering just 11 goals in over 1,240 minutes of action, spanning 14 starts. His .771 save percentage paces the HL, along with his .798 GAA and .357 shutout percentage.
Johansen has been a mainstay in the Green Bay starting lineup, making 12 starts while appearing in all 14 games. He's filled the stat sheet for the Phoenix, totaling one goal, one assist, three points, seven shots, and 10 shots on goal.
Barry is part of GB's stalwart defense, ranked among the best in several categories nationwide. His three goals, two assists, and eight points are all tied for a career-high. Barry was tabbed to the United Soccer Coaches Association All-North Region Second Team during the preseason. He has been as good in the classroom as has been on the field, receiving semester high honors in spring 2023.
The Horizon League recognizes student-athletes with seasonal Academic All-League Teams in each of its 19 championship sports. To be eligible for Horizon League All-Academic consideration, a student-athlete must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.20 or higher (based on a 4.00 scale), have completed at least one year at the member institution, have earned 24 semester-hour or 36 quarter-hour credits, and participate in 50 percent of the team's overall contests. An Honorable Mention team is awarded to student-athletes who received at least 25 percent of votes but did not make the All-Academic team.
