GREEN BAY, Wis. – Green Bay women's basketball announced this morning the hiring of Meghan Pingel as an assistant coach. Pingel is likely a familiar name to many fans, recently graduating from Green Bay in 2022 after spending five years as a guard on the team.
"We are excited to have Meghan Pingel join the women's basketball staff at Green Bay as an assistant coach," said Head Coach Kevin Borseth. "Meghan's familiarity with our program should make for a smooth transition into her new role."
Pingel provided consistency all over the hardwood, shooting 35.7 percent while racking up 340 assists and 277 rebounds. During her final season in Titletown as a student-athlete, Pingel recorded a career-high 22 points versus North Dakota State. Pingel was on the 2017-18 team that won the Horizon League regular season and Tournament Championship, making it to the First Round of the NCAA Tournament.
"Meghan understands what it takes to be successful as a student-athlete both on and off the floor," continued Borseth. "She'll be a great resource for our younger team members."
"Coming back to the program and community that means so much to me and my family, getting to learn from some of the best in the business, and helping coach a team I care deeply for is something I don't take for granted," commented Pingel. "I'm honored by and excited for the opportunity."
Green Bay currently has eight players who were teammates with Pingel during the 2021-22 season, which was her final season as a player.
The Phoenix opens the 2023-24 campaign with an exhibition game on Wednesday, October 25 at 7 p.m. against UW-Stout at the Kress Center.
