GREEN BAY, Wis. - Green Bay women's soccer got a late goal from Laney Stark to tie the Robert Morris Colonials 1-1 Sunday afternoon.
The draw moved Green Bay's record to 4-6-5 overall and 2-3-3 in Horizon action, while RMU moved to 4-4-6 overall and 3-1-3 in HL action.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Robert Morris opened the scoring early, taking a 1-0 advantage in the fourth minute on a goal from Taylor Day, who got an assist from Paloma Swankler. Both squads had limited opportunities in the first half, with each team recording just three shots. Senah Hanes, Stark, and Trudy Quidzinski had a shot for the Phoenix, with Stark and Quidzinski forcing a save by RMU goalkeeper Brenna Murray. Robert Morris was held shot-less for the final 29:06 of the frame, but carried a 1-0 lead into the break.
Out of the locker room, Green Bay blitzed Robert Morris with three shots, but came up empty. Allison Steeno and Laney Hoehnke forced another pair of saves by Murray. Later on, Sophie Heyboer ripped a shot that was saved again by Murray. The Phoenix finally broke through in the 78th minute when Stark found the back of the net after being fed the ball by Quidzinski. Green Bay had a chance to take the lead on a Quidzinski shot in the 89th minute, but Murray made one last diving save, and RMU and GB tied 1-1.
GAME NOTES
- Mallorie Benhart recorded six saves for the Phoenix.
- Green Bay recorded nine shots on goal and outshot RMU 13-8 overall.
COMING UP
Green Bay will host the season finale on Wednesday, October 30 versus in-state rival Milwaukee. The Phoenix will need to defeat MKE and get some help from around the league, including losses by IU Indy and Wright State.
