GREEN BAY, Wis. – Welcome back to another fall edition of Phoenix Weekly, presented by Capital Credit Union! The Green Bay women's soccer team has its final home game tonight against Milwaukee at 5 p.m. Cross Country is hosting the Horizon League Championships at Shorewood on Saturday at 11a.m./12p.m. Volleyball will host Northern Kentucky on Friday & Saturday, while swim also has another weekend at home with duel meets against UW-Stevens Point and UW-Oshkosh.
 
WEEK IN REVIEW
CROSS COUNTRY
The Green Bay cross country team competed at the Bradley Pink Classic on Friday. The Phoenix took 20th overall in the men's race and 32nd in the women's competition. Noah Jahnke placed 30th overall in the men's 8k at 24:20.5. Ava Lorenz paced the Green Bay women with a time of 23:04.9, placing 192nd.
 
MEN'S SOCCER
Green Bay men's soccer beat IU Indy 2-0 Saturday afternoon at Aldo Santaga Stadium. Chris Album scored both goals, the first one came in the 80th minute assisted by Tommy Coughlin and So Nishikawa. The second goal came shortly after in the 83rd minute with assists being credited from Matisse Chretien and Myles Sophanavong. Green Bay outshot IU Indy 19-0 in shots on goal.
 
SWIM & DIVE
The Phoenix swim & dive team competed in two home duals this past weekend. On Friday, Green Bay took on IU Indy. The men lost 164-79, while the women were defeated 123-119. On Saturday, the men's team beat Valparaiso 116-89, and the women won 114-91.
 
MEN'S EVENTS
Against IU Indy Max Kasal won the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 21.08. The 200-yard medley relay of Jerett Maalis, Eli Zimmerman, Kasal, and Gabe Luepke also took first place in 1:32.35.
 
On Saturday, Zimmerman placed first in the 50-yard freestyle at 21.36 against Valparaiso. Chris Aristondo won the 400-yard IM with a time of 4:04.45. Kaleb Lombard secured a victory in the 200-yard butterfly in 1:54.79.
 
WOMEN'S EVENTS
Annie Frederickson totaled 239.33 points to win the three-meter dive against IU Indy. Kaleigh Gale took first in the 1,000-yard freestyle with a time of 10:48.75.
 
Against Valparaiso, Emily Allen took first in the 50-yard freestyle, posting a time of 23.99. The 400-yard medley relay team of Esther Oswald, Paige Dekiep, Faith Eilertson, and Allen brought in a first-place finish with a time of 3:57.45.
 
VOLLEYBALL
Green Bay volleyball lost three Horizon League matches, two against Wright State and one against Milwaukee this past week. On Friday, the Raiders took down the Phoenix in three hard-fought sets (25-17, 38-36, 25-19). Katie Schulz led the Phoenix in kills with 18. Danilynn Schell had 10 kills. Diane Pichelman also added 10 kills. Abby Gardner tallied 14 digs.
 
On Saturday, the Phoenix lost in four sets (25-23, 13-25, 14-25, 24-26). Cora Behnke led the team with 14 kills. Schell and Schulz both tallied eight kills. Gardner had 21 digs.
 
On Tuesday, Green Bay fell to Milwaukee in three sets (22-25, 19-25, 22-25). Schell downed 12 kills to lead the Phoenix. Calli Gentry had a team-high 32 assists and 16 digs. Cora Behnke surpassed 1,000 kills in her Phoenix career, becoming just the ninth person to do it in GB history. Calli Gentry also climbed the ranks of the career assists record, moving up to no. 3.
 
A LOOK AHEAD
 
CROSS COUNTRY
The Green Bay cross country team will host and compete at the Horizon League Championship on Saturday, November 2nd at Phoenix Alumni Cross Country Course at Shorewood Park. The women's race will start at 11 a.m., with the men following shortly after at 12 p.m.
 
MEN'S BASKETBALL
Green Bay men's basketball starts its 2024-25 season against Oklahoma State on Monday at 8 p.m. The Phoenix have five returning players and 13 newcomers this season. Preston Ruedinger is the returning leading scorer for Green Bay averaging 8.4 points per game a season ago. Bryce Thompson leads in returning scoring for Oklahoma State averaging 11.6 points per game last season.
 
MEN'S SOCCER
The Phoenix men's soccer team travels to Rochester, Michigan to face off with Oakland for their last road conference game on Friday. Oakland is led by Abdul Al-Rashed having scored four goals this season. The Golden Grizzlies are 6-6-2 overall and 4-1-2 in the HL.
 
Green Bay's Chris Album is tied for third in the league with seven goals and Myles Sophanavong is tied for third in assists with five.
 
SWIM & DIVE
The Phoenix swim & dive team hosts UW-Stevens Point on Friday at 6 p.m. and UW-Oshkosh on Saturday at 2 p.m. Both meets are at Peter F. Dorschel Natatorium.
 
VOLLEYBALL
The Phoenix volleyball team hosts Northern Kentucky on Friday and Saturday. NKU is a game behind the Phoenix in sixth place with a 5-7 record in HL play. Joy Banks is sixth in the HL in kills per set at 3.36.
 
Green Bay's Katie Schulz is eighth in the Horizon League averaging 3.26 kills per set. Abby Gardner is ninth in digs per set at 3.85. Calli Gentry is third in the HL averaging 9.32 assists per set. Emma Best is second in the HL averaging 0.41 service aces per set.
 
WOMEN'S BASKETBALL
The Green Bay women's basketball team travels to 13th-ranked Kansas State on Monday at 11 a.m. for their first regular season game in the 2024-25 season. The Phoenix returns 10 players from last year and brought in three transfers. Ayoka Lee led the Wildcats averaging 19.7 points per game last season. Natalie McNeal is Green Bay's returning leading scorer with 13.2 points per game.

WOMEN'S SOCCER
The Phoenix women's soccer team will host Milwaukee tonight at 5 p.m. GB currently sits tied for seventh place with nine HL points, and will need all three points from their game tonight for a chance at a top six spot and a Horizon League Championships berth. Wright State currently sits in sixth with 11 points, and they take on Northern Kentucky at 6 p.m. CT, who sits in second with 22 points.

The Green Bay defense will need to be on point to take down the Panthers tonight. Milwaukee leads the league with 35 goals scored. That potent offense is led by Kayla Rollins, who leads the Horizon League with 12 goals scored. Green Bay's Senah Hanes is tied for second-most with eight goals.
