SAINT PAUL, Minn. – The offense came to play for the Green Bay men's soccer team Wednesday night, as the Phoenix picked up a 3-1 road win at St. Thomas. The Phoenix has now won three straight games and moved to 9-3 on the season.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Oscar Bjornskov opened the scoring in the first half after finishing a
Myles Sophanavong flick from the end line to the middle of the box. It was Bjornskov's second goal of the season. GB doubled its lead after Sophanavong found
Luke Nicholson, who scored his fourth goal of the season in the 42nd minute.
Andrew Paolucci was also credited with an assist on the goal.
St. Thomas came out of the gates in the second half and put a considerable amount of pressure on the Green Bay goal. That pressure resulted in an Alejandro Giner goal that cut the Phoenix lead in half in the 60th minute. However, the Phoenix was able to stabilize and eventually put the nail in the coffin thanks to a first career goal from freshman
Aidan Fong. Bjornskov played a large part in the goal after stealing the ball from a Tommies defender and touching the ball past the UST keeper before finding Fong who slotted it home.
GAME NOTES
- Green Bay received two yellow cards to UST's three.
- Dylan Moua also got an assist on the first goal of the game.
- Drew Swancutt recorded one save for the Phoenix out of 15 total Tommies shots.
- UST actually outshot GB 15-10, but only two were on target.
COMING UP
Green Bay will go back to Horizon League play this weekend when they host Northern Kentucky on Saturday at 1 p.m.
