GREEN BAY, Wis. – The Green Bay softball team and head coach Sara Kubuske has announced four team captains for the 2024 season, Sam Saloun, Hailey Heckenlaible, Lauren Porter, and Paige Hanson.
 
"I am honored to name Sam, Hailey, Lauren, and Paige as our 2024 team captains," Kubuske said. "These four have established themselves as leaders both on and off the field.  Through their hard work and dedication to this program, I believe they will provide the proper guidance for our team."
 
Saloun is one of three seniors on the team, and has been a mainstay in the Phoenix lineup for her entire career. In her three years as a Phoenix, Saloun has been named All-Horizon League First and Second Team, All-Freshman Team, All-Academic, and has received Academic Honor Roll distinction multiple times. Saloun's name is littered around the Green Bay record book, and she enters the season eighth in career home runs and fifth in batting average.
 
Hailey Heckenlaible is another of the team's seniors, and has been a major contributor throughout her Phoenix career. Heckenlaible has played all around the diamond for GB, and sports a .327 OB% in 119 career games.
 
Lauren Porter, a junior transfer from Western Michigan, enters her second season with the Phoenix. Porter played in 41 games and started in 26 of them during the 2023 season.
 
Paige Hanson, a sophomore third baseman from Cottage Grove, Wisconsin was one of the best hitters on the team a year ago. Hanson was named the Horizon League Freshman of the Year and All-Horizon League First Team after batting .300 with a .414 SLG% and .383 OB%.
 
"Having 12 young ladies that are embarking on their first season in Division I softball, I feel it is imperative to have strong leadership, Kubuske continued. "We take pride in the pillars of our program, which Sam and Hailey were a part of building from day one their freshman year.  With our values in place when Lauren and Paige arrived on campus, both have fully embraced who we are and what we stand for as a program.  Leadership from these four young ladies will be instrumental to a successful season."
