Phoenix Flies East to Take on Robert Morris and Youngstown State

GREEN BAY, Wis. – After a 79-68 win over Wright State on Sunday, Green Bay men's basketball is hitting the road this weekend to take on Robert Morris on Friday at 6 p.m. and Sunday at Youngstown State at 1 p.m.

ABOUT THE COLONIALS
Robert Morris is 20-8 overall and is a half-game from first-place Horizon League leader Cleveland State with a 12-5 HL record. The Colonials have won four straight games in Horizon League play and 10 of the last 11 overall.
 
Alvaro Folgueiras averages 14 points and 9.5 rebounds per game to lead the Colonials. Kam Woods also averages 14 points per game and is the team leader in assists with 4.7 and steals at 2.0 per game. Another player to watch is junior Amarion Dickerson, who leads the Colonials at 2.5 blocks per game, good for second in the Horizon League. Dickerson also averages 13.3 points and 6.1 rebounds per game.
 
ABOUT THE PENGUINS
Youngstown State is tied for second with Robert Morris at 12-5 in the HL and is also a half-game behind first-place Cleveland State. The Penguins are 18-10 overall this season and are currently on a four-game winning streak.
 
EJ Farmer leads the Penguins in points averaging 15.1 per game. Nico Galette is also a key contributor averaging 12.4 points, seven rebounds, and 1.4 steals per game. YSU Center Gabe Dynes is first in the HL and second in the country at 3.1 blocks per game.
 
The Penguins are good on both sides of the ball as a team, sitting third in scoring (77.1) and fourth in scoring defense (71.0) in the Horizon League.
 
LAST TIME OUT
Ben Tweedy poured in a career-high 27 points last Sunday to help lead the Green Bay men's basketball team over the Wright State Raiders 79-68. The win snapped a 21-game losing streak for the Phoenix and is the first Horizon League win of the season.
 
Tweedy's full line was 27 points, seven rebounds, two assists, and two steals. Marcus Hall added 15 points, seven rebounds, and five assists, while Preston Ruedinger had 14 points and Ryan Wade had 11.
 
Green Bay shared the ball well in Sunday's game, racking up 16 assists on 23 made field goals. On the defensive side, Green Bay held Wright State shooters to just 39.3 percent from the field, including 26.3 percent from three-point range. Solomon Callaghan led the Raiders with 21 points on the day.
 
BUCKETS FOR BEN
Freshman Ben Tweedy had the most productive game of his career on Sunday against Wright State, scoring a career-high 27 points and tied a team-high of seven rebounds. Tweedy was also 15-of-16 shooting from the free-throw line, tied for the second-most made free throws in a game in program history. Tweedy has added double-figure scoring in three of his last six games.
 
MIDSEASON REINFORCEMENTS
Midseason, the Green Bay men's basketball team added Yonatan Levy, a 6'9" freshman forward from Hamerkaz, Israel, to the 2024-25 active roster. Levy played for Hapoel Eilat of the Israeli Basketball Premier League in 2023-24 and received final eligibility certification from the NCAA in December. In nine games played, Yonatan is averaging 9.9 points and 6.3 rebounds. He had a career day against Cleveland State on Jan. 25, finishing with 19 points and nine rebounds. He also racked up 15 points and 10 rebounds against Detroit Mercy on Feb. 1.
 
DOUBLE J DELIVERS
Jeremiah Johnson has made big strides in the last month. Since Dec. 14, the freshman has scored double figures in seven of his last 14 games. Across those 14 games, Johnson is averaging 11.1 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 1.5 assists per game.
 
MONEY MARCUS
After a Horizon League All-Freshman Team selection, a season ago, Phoenix forward Marcus Hall has been outstanding to start the 2024-25 Season. Hall is currently averaging 12.9 points and 4.2 rebounds in 33.4 minutes per game shooting 43.1 percent from the floor and 35.2 percent from three-point range. Hall has scored in double figures 18 times this season, including 15 points last time out against Wright State.
 
FREE POINTS
Green Bay had made their chances at the free throw line count. GB is knocking down 78.9 percent from the line, which ranks 12th best in the NCAA.
 
ROY RETURNS
After a stint at NAIA Langston University, where he was named an NAIA All-American First Teamer, Anthony Roy has returned to the Division I floor with Green Bay. After 11 games back in Division I, Roy has averaged 25.7 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 2.9 assists per game. He also shoots 50.3 percent from the floor and 43.2 percent from three. Roy is sending waves throughout the country, he is first in points per game and first in three-pointers made per game with 4.4, as well as being first in three-point attempts per game at 10.1. Roy has scored 30+ points in five out of 11 games, and 20+ points in nine of his 11 starts this season. Roy is currently out for an extended period with a lower-body injury.
 
INTERNATIONAL TALENT
The 2024-25 Phoenix roster features players from three foreign countries and eight different U.S. states. Ben Tweedy is from Australia, Roee Oselka and Yonatan Levy are from Israel, and Mouhamadou Cissé is from Senegal.
 
TOP 10 TURNAROUND
After a program-low 3-29 season in 2022-23, Green Bay bounced back with a resilient 18-14 record a season ago in head coach Sundance Wicks' lone season with the Phoenix, jumping from last in the Horizon League to third. That 15.0 game turnaround is tied for the 10th-best turnaround in NCAA Division I history.
 
NEW LOOK ROSTER
The Phoenix underwent a roster transformation this past off-season. Of GB's rostered players, five are returners, three are transfers, and nine are incoming freshmen.
 
FAMILIAR FACES
Multiple returners will play large roles in the upcoming 2024-25 season, including Foster WondersPreston Ruedinger, and Marcus Hall. Last season, Ruedinger averaged 8.4, Wonders averaged 7.8, and Hall averaged 6.4 points per game. Mac Wrecke and Ryan Wade are the other two returners and will be featured in Coach Gottlieb's rotation.
