VILNIUS, Lithuania - For the second time this offseason, the Green Bay men's soccer program has an athlete signing with a professional team.
Kajus Kontautas joined FK Zalgiris Vilnius, as announced by the club recently. Kontautas is a native of Vilnius. Across three seasons as a Phoenix, he played in 38 games. Kajus tallied 19 shots and scored two goals, including the game-winner against St. Thomas on October 24, 2023 during the team's Championship season. Kontautas helped the Phoenix to an NCAA Tournament appearance in 2023.
The 21-year-old participated in the capital club's training sessions in the winter in preparation for the season. Kajus' father, Gediminas Kontautas, has previously played for Žalgiris, who became the national champion with the Vilnius team in 1991 and 1992.
FK Zalgiris Vilnius won their league (A Lyga, the highest level in Lithuania) last season, qualifying for the champions league.
Information from the club's official press release was used in this story.
