Ebner Named Horizon League Co-Player of the Year, Multiple Phoenix Garner #HLSB Awards

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – On Tuesday morning, the Horizon League office announced the #HLSB All-League Awards. Several Green Bay individuals were honored with multiple awards.

Redshirt Freshman Sara Ebner led the way for Green Bay, being named the Horizon League Co-Player of the Year, Co-Freshman of the Year, First Team All-League, and All-Freshman Team selection. Joining Ebner on the First Team were Jenna Redders and Genesis Eggart. Brooke Schwall also joined Ebner on the All-Freshman Team for the Phoenix. Madyson Baker rounded out the honorees for Green Bay, being named a Sportsmanship Award Finalist.

Ebner, the Horizon League Co-Player of the Year with IU Indy's Molly Kable, was outstanding all year long for Green Bay, especially in conference play. In Horizon League games, the freshman shortstop batted .432, to go with a .459 on-base percentage and .654 slugging percentage. She also led the league in doubles in conference games with 10. The Yorkville, Ill., native also led Green Bay in hits (59), RBI (26), and total bases (84). Ebner is the third HL Player of the Year in Phoenix softball history, with Alicia Peters winning the award in 2022, and Tiffany Giese in 2023.

Redders, a first-year transfer from Madison College, also stood out for the Phoenix in Horizon League Play. In 24 league games, the junior hit .351, while getting on base at a clip of .412, rounded out by a .506 slugging percentage. The right fielder finished top 10 in league play in hits (10th, 27), doubles (5th, 7), and RBI (7th, 19).

Eggart, a De Pere native, that returned home for her final year of collegiate softball was an ace for Green Bay, particularly down the stretch. In HL games this year, the lefty went 7-6 with a 2.68 ERA in 75.2 innings pitched. Eggart finished top 5 in most categories, highlighted by her 86 strikeouts, the second-highest mark in the league. With the Phoenix 2-13 in Horizon League play, desperately needing a win to keep their postseason hopes alive, Eggart stepped up. Her complete game shutout of Youngstown State started a stretch where the Phoenix went 8-1 to finish the year and secure a Horizon League Championships spot. In those final nine conference games, Eggart went 6-0 with a 0.57 ERA in 36.2 innings pitched, including three complete game shutouts.

Brooke Schwall also came on at the end of the year for Green Bay. In 19 Horizon League games, the freshman slashed .326/.367/.565. The Shorewood, Ill., native had key hits for the Phoenix offense down the stretch, including two home runs, five doubles, and 14 RBI in HL play.

The 2025 Horizon League Softball Championships will begin tomorrow in Cleveland, Ohio. Green Bay is set to square off against the IU Indy Jaguars tomorrow at 1:30 p.m. CT. All Championship games will be streamed on ESPN+, or you can follow every pitch in real-time with live stats.
