GREEN BAY, Wis. – Following his performance at the Duke University Golf Club in Durham, N.C., on June 2, former Green Bay men's golfer George Kneiser, qualified for the U.S. Open. Kneiser is the first Green Bay golfer to play in the U.S. Open, which will take place at Oakmont Country Club in Pennsylvania.
Kneiser is set to tee off at Oakmont with Grant Haefner and Joey Herrera tomorrow at 1:42 p.m. CST.
"To qualify for my first U.S. Open is definitely special, and for it to be at the historic Oakmont takes it to another level," said Kneiser.
This year, Kneiser has been competing in the Asian PGA Tour; prior to that, he was in the America's PGA Tour.
Harrison Ott (Vanderbilt) and Kneiser are the first Wisconsin golfers to reach the U.S. Open via Final Qualifying since Osceola's Charlie Danielson made it in 2019 at Pebble Beach (Calif.) Golf Links. It is the first time that two golfers from Wisconsin have survived Final Qualifying in the same year since 2017 when Madison's Steve Stricker and Mequon's Jordan Niebrugge made it to Erin Hills the same way.
