GREEN BAY, Wis. – The Green Bay men's basketball team and head coach announced the hiring of Kerry Rupp as an assistant coach on Wednesday afternoon. Rupp rounds out the Phoenix staff for the upcoming 2025-26 season.
"I'm excited to have Kerry Rupp join our staff as my offensive coordinator," Gottlieb said. "Kerry is an astute teacher in how he coaches and his experience, style of offense and his attention to detail all fits what we need in GB. Kerry's connections in recruiting, his knowledge of the Horizon league and experience as a Head Coach all make him the perfect fit for our Phamily."
Rupp brings more than 20 years of Division I experience to Green Bay. His career has spanned some of the nation's top programs, highlighted by multiple NCAA Tournament runs. He most recently served as an assistant coach at Detroit Mercy during the 2022-23 and 2023-24 seasons.
"I am extremely excited to be joining the University of Green Bay's men's basketball program," Rupp said. "I want to thank Coach Gottlieb and the entire staff for this opportunity. I also want to thank my family for their continued love and support. I look forward to working with Coach Gottlieb in helping players grow on and off the court, which has always been a passion of mine and seeing the Phoenix rise!"
Rupp broke into the Division I ranks at the University of Utah in 2000 under Hall of Fame coach Rick Majerus. In four seasons with the Utes, he helped the program to three NCAA Tournament appearances and an NIT berth, while also recruiting Andrew Bogut, who went on to become the Naismith College Player of the Year and No. 1 pick in the 2005 NBA Draft. He also served as interim head coach for the last 13 games of the 2003-04 season, leading the Utes to their first-ever Mountain West Conference Tournament title.
After serving as the Associate Head Coach at Indiana and Assistant Coach at UAB in the following years, he was named the head coach at Louisiana Tech in 2007. During his four years there, he led the team to new heights, highlighted by a 24-11 record during the 2009-10 season when the team received votes in the Associated Press Top 25 for the first time in 19 years and advanced to the second round of the CollegeInsider Tournament.
Following his stint at LA Tech, he was the director of basketball operations at Hawaii in 2011-12 before joining Montana as an assistant coach the following year. At Montana, he helped the Grizzlies set a Big Sky Conference record with 19 league wins and advance to the NCAA Tournament for the third time in four years, and then would go on to coach at Oregon State. Rupp spent eight seasons as the Associate Head Coach at Oregon State. While he was there, Oregon State won the Pac-12 Conference Tournament championship for the first time in program history in 2020-21 and won three games in the NCAA Tournament to advance to the Elite Eight for the first time since 1982.
Rupp earned a bachelor's degree from Southern Utah University in Physical Education in 1977. He is married to his wife Lori, and they have five daughters (Alie, Lindsey, Shelby, Billie, and Randie).
