Green Bay Falls To UAB, 68-56, in Season Opener

KENT, Ohio  - The Green Bay Phoenix (0-1) went through a scoring drought at the wrong time Friday night in the team's season opener, and fell to the UAB Blazers (1-0) by a 68-56 count in the first game of the Hispanic College Fund Classic.

Green Bay scored just five points during a nearly 10-minute stretch that began at the 13:23 mark of the second half with the score tied at 41-41. As a result, the Phoenix found itself down by nine by the time the spurt was over. Prior to the late UAB uprising, neither team led by more than four.

Rahmon Fletcher (Kansas City, Mo.) scored seven of the team's first nine points in the game's opening three minutes, but picked up his second foul just four minutes later and did not play the rest of the half. He also was whistled for two quick fouls in the second half and played just 15 minutes in the contest, scoring a team-high 14 points.

Bryquis Perine (Milwaukee, Wis.) tallied 13 points, just two shy of his career high, on the strength of 3-of-5 3-point shooting. Seth Evans (Seneca, Ill.) connected for eight points in 14 minutes in his collegiate debut.

Elijah Millsap led all players in points (22) and rebounds (11) for UAB. The Blazers held a 40-29 rebounding advantage on the evening.

Green Bay led, 30-28, at intermission. The Phoenix made 7 of its 16 shots from behind the arc on the night, good for 43.8 percent.

The Phoenix continues tournament play Saturday at 5 p.m. (ET)/4 p.m. (CT) against Samford. It is the second of four games for Green Bay at the event.
