GREEN BAY, Wis. - The Green Bay women's soccer team
(2-4-0) kicked off its home portion of the 2009 season with a 3-1 victory over
North Dakota State (2-4-1) at Santaga Stadium Sunday afternoon. With the win,
the Phoenix snapped a three-game losing streak and evened the all-time series
with the Bison at two games apiece.
The Phoenix struck first in the 12th minute when

close range following a rebound off her own shot. It was Arno's second goal of
the season.

kick. NDSU ended the contest with a 10-6 advantage in corners.
The Phoenix took a 2-1 lead into halftime after freshman forward
Nicole Dooher (New Hope, Minn.) knocked in a rebound off a corner kick in the 43rd
minute for her second goal of the season. Adding an insurance goal in the 71st
minute was junior forward Sam Schiro (Racine, Wis.), who slid a shot past Bison
goalkeeper Kalani Bertsch from close range following a nice pass from senior
Meghan McKenzie (Green Bay, Wis.).
Despite a 15-7 edge in the shot column, the Bison were
unable to find the net more than once. Green Bay goalie Maddie Drusch
(Appleton, Wis.) made five saves in the match to earn her second win of the
year, while Bertsch made three stops.
