MILWAUKEE, Wis. -
Julie Wojta (Mishicot, Wis.) had her third double-doubl e of the season scoring
20 points and 11 rebounds while Kayla Tetschlag (Sheboygan, Wis.) added 17
points as the No. 17/17 Phoenix remained unbeaten with a 74-53 victory over
Wisconsin-Milwaukee on Saturday.
The Phoenix (16-0, 5-0) overcame a cold shooting first half to remain among
four undefeated teams in Division I women's basketball. The win extended the school's
Horizon League winning streak to 35 games and consecutive regular season game
winning streak to 34.
Green Bay struggled shooting during the first half, at one point missing 10 straight
from the field. In all, Green Bay hit just 12 of 29 shots in the first half.
"I didn't feel like we played great in the first half but we
really finished strong and found a way to fight back and head into the locker room
with a 10-point lead," said head coach Matt Bollant.
The Phoenix broke the game open at the beginning of the second half, using an
18-6 run to grab a 55-33 lead with 11:59 remaining. The Panthers got no closer
than 16 the rest of the way, "I thought Julie grabbing those boards in the
second half and finishing strong on the blocks was key for us," said Bollant.
"I'm pleased with our team, but there are a lot of things we need to get better
at," added Bollant.
(6-10, 1-4) was led by Lindsay Laur with 17 points and
Ashley Imperiale with 16.
This week Green Bay will head to Chicago for a pair of
games. Thursday they will take on Loyola at 4:45 p.m. followed by UIC on
Saturday at 5:30 p.m. The Phoenix will be back home at the Kress Center Thursday,
Jan. 28 as they will host Butler at 7 p.m.
