GREEN BAY, Wis. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) - The Green Bay women's soccer team
(0-0-1) was able to hold off a strong Drake attack to earn a 0-0 double
overtime tie in the team's season opener Sunday afternoon at Santaga Stadium.
With the draw, Drake moves to 0-0-2 on the year and 3-0-1 in the all-time
series against Green Bay.
The Bulldogs outshot the Phoenix
26-6 in the contest, forcing Green Bay junior goalkeeper Maddie Drusch
(Appleton, Wis.) to make a number of difficult saves throughout the match to
earn the shutout.
"I thought our defense played
well," Green Bay head coach Trevor Warren said. "We were very resilient and
Maddie was able to come up with some really big saves on some of their best
chances. We've got some work to do on the offensive side of the ball, but it's
early on in the season and I was happy with how we battled."
Drusch made eight saves in all,
while Bulldogs keeper Kalena Litch earned her second straight shutout -
stopping three balls. Drake junior Danielle Figliola fired six shots in the
game, while sophomores Kasey Wellman and Laura Moklestad each shot five times.
Green Bay is next in action this
Friday, Aug. 27 when it travels to North Dakota State to take on the Bison at 4:30 p.m.
