DES MOINES, Iowa (GreenBayPhoenix.com)
- Senior Whitney Schott (Roscoe, Ill.) directed
Green Bay (3-8) to a season-high .264 hitting percentage as the Phoenix
concluded its weekend with a 3-1 (25-17, 23-25, 25-19, 25-18) victory over
South Dakota at the Hampton Inn Bulldog Challenge Saturday evening.
In Green Bay's first match of the day, Idaho State (6-3)
dealt the Phoenix a 3-1 (25-13, 25-21, 23-25, 25-16) loss despite a team-high
11 kills from junior Abbey Gitter
(Hortonville, Wis.).
Schott's strong day included 84 assists, 13, digs, 12 kills
and a .435 hitting percentage. She was named to the Bulldog Challenge
All-Tournament team, the third-straight weekend Schott has earned a spot on an
all-tourney team.
"It's good to finish off the tournament with a win especially
having lost a close second set [against South Dakota]," said head coach Debbie Kirch. "Overall, I expected us to play better this weekend after
the way we finished last weekend. We need to learn how to fight back when a
team pushes us."
