GREEN BAY, WIS. (GREENBAYPHOENIX.COM) - The
women's golf team wrapped up its final round in the Green Bay Invitational,
Tuesday, held at the Green Bay Country Club. Green Bay finished in fourth place
in the eight team invitational, shooting 663, just six shots off of second place.
Freshman Cassandra Marschall (Marshfield, Wis.)
led the way for the Phoenix shooting 81 in the final round for a combined score
of 161 (+15) in the tournament. Marschall's score placed her in a tie for
seventh place.
All five of
Green Bay's golfers finished in the top 25. Nicole Westcott (Mequon, Wis.) shot 84 in her final round,
finishing with a combined total of 167 (+21) for the tournament. Westcott has
17 pars through 36 holes of play.
Christina De Boer (Onalaska, Wis.) tied
for 16th place after improving five strokes from her first round. De
Boer shot 82 in her final round finishing with a combined score of 169 (+23). Ellyn Hansen (Milton, Wis.) finished
tied in 18th place after shooting 87 in her final round, finishing
with a combined score of 170 (+24).
Rounding out
Green Bay's top five was Eleanor Yorobe (Bloomington,
Minn.) who improved seven shots in her final round. Yorobe shot 90 in her first
round and improved to 83 in her second round finishing with a total of 173
(+27).
"It was a
solid tournament for us. To finish six shots out of second place is something
we're pleased with," said head Coach Lucas Hana.
Green Bay
was the second best team on par 5 scoring as the Phoenix was +20. Green Bay
also posted one eagle in the competition.
Conference
rivals Loyola and Valparaiso finished the tournament in first and second place.
Loyola posted a team score of 636, followed by Valparaiso who shot 657.
University of North Dakota placed third ahead of Green Bay after shooting 659.
Green Bay
will hit the road for the Chicago State Fall Tournament held in Hammond, Ind. Sunday,
Sept. 19.
