Green Bay Drops 1-0 Decision to Cleveland State

CLEVELAND, Ohio (GreenBayPhoenix.com) - The Green Bay women's soccer team (2-5-2, 0-1-0 Horizon League) opened conference play Friday night with a 1-0 loss at Cleveland State (5-4-2, 1-0-0) at Krenzler Field. The result marked the fourth consecutive 1-0 loss for the Phoenix.

"We struggled a bit in the first half, but the positive is that we played much better in the second period," Green Bay head coach Trevor Warren said. "I thought we did a much better job controlling the possession after halftime, but we just couldn't make the final pass to create scoring chances. We've just got to keep working, make some adjustments and hopefully the goals will come."

The Vikings got on the scoreboard in the 33rd minute when senior midfielder Sylvia Olsby scored her second goal of the season off a deflection in front of the net. Freshman forward Nikki Bevilacqua was credited with the assist on the play.

The Phoenix, which entered the contest as the NCAA leaders in team save percentage (93.3 percent), was outshot 8-5. Cleveland State also had a 3-0 advantage in shots on goal.

Maddie Drusch (Appleton, Wis.) made a pair of saves while allowing her fifth goal of the season. Drusch and the Phoenix have still not allowed more than a single goal in any contest this year, as each of Green Bay's five losses was by a 1-0 score.

Green Bay wraps up its four-match road swing when it takes on Youngstown State (2-7-0) on Sunday at noon. The Phoenix then returns home for its annual alumni game on Friday, Oct. 8 against Butler.
